Maui is the one I have I mind, although hiking and diving aren't on my personal agenda.

Great report and delighted to see it get an extended run here!

If you get the chance the other Islands have a different vibe. Maui is my personal favourite. Although I do admit at times I would struggle to see the benefit in by-passing somewhere like Barbados to go there.

Worth researching the area before booking anything then, although I can't ever see us going to be honest.
New Zealand is closer and much easier to get to from here especially once NZ start their direct flight to AKL.

I envy you the NZ option, HIDDY. Too bloody far from here!

MickV ... Funny you mention Barbados! That's probably our 241 option next winter (Feb) with Maui on my mind for Jan or even Dec. Christmas in Maui? Hmmm

I'm quite taken by The House in Barbados, from my researching so far.

That sounds like a nice plan! You have to keep your new card some way.

I love Barbados at that time of the year. A nice meal at the cliff then is hard to beat!!

.
It's not that much longer a journey than the one you just did especially with a stopover. It's one of the few places I'd make the effort to return to.

So an option of JER-UK-CLT-LAX-OGG-HNL-AKL?

And home via SYD-SIN-UK-JER?

Gawd!

On second thoughts. If you just want some winter sun you should rent a villa in southern Spain instead. Much less hassle, no jet lag and you may even be able to take the cat.

Great trip report Uncle T, look forward to hearing some more about it in July. I admire your stamina, bit far for me even at my relative tender age.

As I noted, surprisingly easy really. For a given value of easy

I think the 30-hour run home was rather tiring in the longer term, but I suspect a break on the way would actually have been worse. And, of course, premium cabins do help quite a bit!

But, as a generally idle 70-yo, it was no great hardship at all
