Thanks again to everyone for the kind comments, and useful supplemental information for the future.
If you could feel inclined to vote for me in the 2015 BA TR lottery, I would not object

Terrific stuff - thank you. I must try and make sure on of my twice yearly JER trips coincides with a do (I did manage to have a meeting on the day of the air show last year; wasn't that a coincidence?).

Glad i've finally found the time to read your brilliant trip report Uncle T
I visited Hawaii for New Year just after my 21st with Anneliese, I agree somewhat with your observations on Pearl Harbor, I remember we arrived at 0730 and got out to see the Arizona at 1050, apparently they sell out of spaces by 10am (all 4000 of them) so the earlier you arrive the less time you have to wait (I pity those who arrive at 10am and have to wait till after 4pm)

I had pre-booked a slot for the Arizona around 11:15am-11:30am.
Arrived at opening time to pick up my passport and was asked if I wanted to go to the Arizona straightaway rather than wait.
It's easy enough to spend a day there especially if you do all the tours and have a real interest the history.

Great TR!!!
I'm jealous that you had good luck with the LAX Hilton Shuttle. I stayed in that particular hotel twice in 2014; both times, the shuttle from the airport was non-existent. Fortunately it is only about 35 minutes by foot from Delta's T5 at LAX to the front door of the LAX Hilton.
