If I say yes, she literally just hangs up on me, assuming I'm working. If I say no, she will launch into whatever conversation for 20 min or more, despite the fact that I'm at my office and it's 10am on a Tuesday.

Doesn't really surprise or bother me that she thinks about my work this way. Years and years of too much work travel and poor priorities on my part...

Hah. I haven't bought shampoo/soap for my home shower in probably 6 or 7 years!

Mine too, the conversation does not even start with hi, how are you, straight to, where are you?.

I have also come across the same pilot / FO a few times on a few flights.

I had a bad one last night.

Closed my bedroom door to turn in for the night and reached up to try and close the security latch.

Back when I was criss-crossing the country and traveling overseas for my job, my father would begin every phone conversation with, "Where are you today, son?" When I've told people about that some take it as a taunt, like he was needling me for traveling too much, but I always appreciated it as an earnest invitation to talk a bit about where I was, what it was like, and what I was doing there.

The first few years I was traveling regularly I collected the miniature bottles of shampoo, lotion, and mouthwash (mouthwash was common back then) from hotels. It was partly as mementos from my travels and partly as, "Hey, I'll save money by not buying this stuff!" After a few years I realized 1) I'd collected way more than I was using, and 2) Most of it was poor quality anyway. Since then I've bought a set of empty miniature bottles for travel and I fill them with my toiletries from home.

I was putting my bag in the overhead in NRT and I heard a voice behind me say, "Mr. GadgetFreak, you fly too much". I turn around and it was one of the flight attendants that was on the flight over from JFK a day or 2 earlier.

When you give miles away in batches of 100,000 as you'll never use them

I'll take some

I recently cut back significantly on my traveling, and today I finally cleaned out my rollaboard and put it in our storage cage. It felt so weird, but now I have a lot more space in my room. I also cleaned out my pen bucket and now it is sorted by Marriott pens, Fairmont pens, and other pens.

Here's two:
- When *every time* you reach into your suit pocket, or briefcase pocket, or any other pocket, you come out with a boarding pass or UG slip from some random flight 2-3 weeks ago.
- When you go to your wallet to tip a valet at a restaurant and feel like a jerk because even though you're back home in the US, you only have GBP and EUR left in your wallet.

For the first one, I'm actually not sure how this happens as I feel like I'm constantly throwing these away. I think they magically reproduce themselves when left in a dark place too long, just like those after dinner mint wrappers.

That sounds a little...clingy. Hopefully you told them "it's not you, it's me"

In AA's case, it might actually be "it's not me, it's you"

...you sit at the hotel bar and order a drink in German. The waitress replies in kind and a few sentences pass between you.

Then you realise you are in VLC and should be speaking Spanish. You both give up and switch to English as a default option.

Probably more of a reflection on my awful Spanish than my spatial awareness.

They wanted to know if it was me or them, in so many words. At that time it was me. I won't say now. When it was me I cut back from about 250,000 miles a year, at least half on AA to maybe 20,000, so I don't have much info about them now.
