Where does the KVS tool get its data and is KVS authorized to provide this data in the manner it is presented?

The tool is known to access a variety of web sites, many in a manner that is not authorized. Please see the next section of this Wiki for a list of sites believed to be accessed and their data access policies (where known).

Additionally, under some conditions the tool appears to access sites via a KVS-operated back end. This means that the tool is not just a 'web browser' that runs via a user's machine. No detailed public information is available about how this works or whether any of this back-end access is authorized.

Thanks, and that works again...

For routing rules I have this answer...

[Host Error] "SERVER I/O ERROR - TRY AGAIN LATER"
or this one
ROUTING MPM MPM TRVL PERMITTED

Yesterday it was the same, during several hours.

Routing rules answers depends on the travel
For exemple,
TPE-EZE (with AF)
ROUTING 4500 FROM-TO TPE-HX/AE/KA/CX/CI-HKG-AMS-PAR-BUE*
FROM-TO TPE-HX/AE/KA/CX/CI-HKG-PAR-AMS-BUE*
FROM-TO TPE-HX/AE/KA/CX/CI-HKG-AMS-PAR-SAO/
RIO-AF/JJ/G3-BUE*
FROM-TO TPE-HX/AE/KA/CX/CI-HKG-PAR-AMS-SAO/
RIO-AF/JJ/G3-BUE*

But for TPE-HNL (with AF)
ROUTING MPM MPM TRVL PERMITTED

Of course on other compagnies, like CO, the routing is given by the pacific way (the shortest) but not interesting for MR addicted

I read on another post (don't remember where) that routing is either discribed as above or indicated by MPM...
What about this?

Thanks for the help KVS and others.

I obviously need to do some more self-training. I didn't know about the MAX option and still don't know what it means actually. I was actually trying to book a business class ticket using routing of either CLT-MUC-FCO on LH (first choice) or CLT-PHL-FCO on US (second choice).

I am a CP with US so I do see some other seat options available on US apparently.

When I use the US site, and use my preferred dates of 10/16 to 10/23 I see:

Standard coach awards available (50k each way, 100k total)
Standard envoy awards availble (80k each way, 160k total)

So I assume (and will read up to find out) that the utility does not show the standard awards since when I use it I get results that show no availability in business or coach on US?

But I do see availability in both coach and business on LH so that confuses me since I think both awards (US and LH) are the same mileage requirements.

[KVS Availability Tool 3.4.0/Platinum - SNT: Awards/StarAlliance/JP-ANA]

CLT Charlotte Douglas NC US [KCLT]
FCO Rome Fiumicino IT [LIRF]
FRI 16 Oct 2009 / 1 Seat

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C Availability
--------- ------ ---- --------- ---- --------- ---- ---- -------------
US 718 CLT 14:35 FCO 08:45 +1 CHG FS/ CS- YS-

Sorry for the likely brain dead questions. I just need to research more than the help file I think.

Standard rewards are generally always available - they are close to last seat availability - so searching for them isn't particularly useful in the tool. The benefit that the tool offers is the ability to find the saver reward seats.

For SkyTeam it does show Standard rewards but the ANA tool doesn't show them for *A so the KVS tool won't either.

Arrow Standard Vs Additional

Correct, with the exception of the terminology. In KVS Tool:

  • Standard (xS) awards are capacity-restricted awards available within the entire Alliance. Some airlines (like US/UA) may like to refer to them using a marketing name "Saver".

  • Additional (xA) awards are unrestricted awards that require additional (e.g. double) mileage. Some airlines (like US/UA) may call them "Standard", again, for marketing purposes. These awards are only applicable within the same airline/FF programme or to certain partners (but not Alliance-wide).

It makes the Tool request connecting flight options when non-stop flights exists.

What you are seeing are "Additional" (as explained in the post above) awards (despite the fact that US website [misleadingly] calls them "Standard"), which require double mileage -- these are not Star Alliance awards.

The LH awards that the KVS Tool is showing are Standard Star Alliance awards (e.g. those that would require 50K miles/roundtrip) AKA "Mileage Saver" in US DM lingo.

I am trying to use the new beta version to inquire on a QF flight using Sabre/GTC, and after quite a long delay I get an error message "Error requesting data: Transferring data : Waiting for response: [13] Type mismatch : Requesting [SW2] [158K]". This is occurring for some flights but not others.

Because it's a MPM fare and does not have a fixed routing.

A question for GDS Specialists.

I had to change a return ticket on CX from HKG to CDG, so I used the Tool to find availability for my class of travel, in order to give proper indications to the companys TA which had to do the change.

It ended that there was not availability for my class on my desired day (Jun 5), but that there was plenty on both CX flights the previous day, which was also fine to me.

So I sent my query to the TA stating my preferences like this (I nevertheless mentioned the Jun 5 flight, in case changes in availability):
1) CX 261 on Jun 05 But seems full
2) CX 263 on Jun 04
3) CX 261 on Jun 04.

The TA booked me on the CX 261 of Jun 04. When seeing that I went back to the Tool (how could we live without it?) where the availability was still there for CX 263 on Jun 04.

So I complained to the TA who gave this answer (well in French, I did the translation):

When I checked the system, the flight (CX263) appeared as full.
As a reminder the reservation system Amadeus is an international system that enables many Travel Agencies to book tickets.

In addition it is possible that, when we did look at the availability, the airline had removed all the quotas to clean all active files on this flight. This is a regular procedure.

What do you think of this explanation?

Is it true that airlines clean a flight? I can understand this notion, but am surprised it would be done on a flight that was far from full, more than 3 weeks before departure.

If they do so, would really the process zero out the flight temporarily?

For me analyzing the different files and removing those that should not be kept can only improve the availability, not reduce it, so I dont see the need for blocking the flight completely.

Instead of trying to validate a [made-up ] "explanation", could you ask your TA for a copy of their availability screen from Amadeus?

mostly beta version working OK for me. Would like to be able to select airline rather than all, but it's a minor issue really.
