Where does the KVS tool get its data and is KVS authorized to provide this data in the manner it is presented?

The tool is known to access a variety of web sites, many in a manner that is not authorized. Please see the next section of this Wiki for a list of sites believed to be accessed and their data access policies (where known).

Additionally, under some conditions the tool appears to access sites via a KVS-operated back end. This means that the tool is not just a 'web browser' that runs via a user's machine. No detailed public information is available about how this works or whether any of this back-end access is authorized.

According to the Sabre Dot/Res function, the cheapest return fare is CAN$278 ( base fare, pre-taxes/fees). I want to go on either AC or UA - but the web sites' cheapest economy fares are considerably more than that.

Do the fare tools give all published fares, whether they are sold out or not, or only the available published fares? Or to put it another way, why don't I find the chapest bases fares on the AC or UA web sites to more or less match what the KVS tools lists, under it fare functionalities?

KVS Tool Mobile Companion, which would be accessible from virtually any wireless device (incl. iPhone), is currently in the works...

In the meantime, have you tried using KVS Tool Online Companion (OC.KVSTool.com) from your iPhone?

Thanks, for the information.

I did see steps #3 and #4. It does answer my questions in terms of the apparent discrepancy.

But I do have followup questions:

1) why (as in my example) are several fares listed, if they violate the fare rule requirement for days one can travel (either on the day of departure or day of arrival)?

2) why are certain fares listed, if those fares are sold out?

OR to put it another way,

will your KVS tool be upgraded in the future, so that steps #3 and #4 will automatically be incorporated when the fare list is displayed (ie so that the customer can determine just from one step, rather than 3 steps, that the displayed fares are the ones that are available to the customer)?

When displaying fares, the [Fares/DotRes] Method validates for Fare Seasonality and Advance Purchase rules only.

Fares cannot be "sold out"; they can only be either filed or un-filed.

This is not what the Tool is really intended to do. The Tool is designed to answer questions, such as:
  • What is the lowest possible fare?
  • What is the lowest possible upgradeable fare?
  • Am I getting the lowest possible fare?
  • What do I need to do to get this fare?
  • Why am I not getting the fare I want?
  • How many seats are currently remaining in booking class X (availability in which is required for this fare)?
In contrast, booking websites cannot provide answers to the above, but can automatically calculate:
  • How much does it cost to depart on XX and return on YY?
  • How much does it cost to depart on XX and return on YY, +/- 3 days?

Thanks, for the information.

Does the Dotres method also validate fare for date of return, compared to date of departure? For example, if certain fares require a maximum 30 day interval between departure and return, and one inputs the return to be 31 days after date of departure, would the above described fares (with the 30 day requirement) be "de-listed"?

Do the Sabre TVN or Galileo PVS methods validate for seasonality and advance purchase requirements only, as well? Or do they also provide extra information (such as day of travel, availability of fare classes), which the sabre fares/dotres method does not provide?

Or to put it another way, what different information with the fare listings do the 3 fare methods give (of course, only the dotres method allows input of return date, while dotres and PVS allow input for economy or business or first class fare listings).

A list of Fare validation rules, applied by each method, has now been added to: http://Help.KVSTool.com/#Methods

For Fares/DotRes, the rules applied are: Seasonality (based on the specified outbound and return dates), Advance Purchase, Min Stay, Max Stay.

Glad you're enjoying the new [Galileo: Fares/PSH] Method.

Bringing back support for RTW-type fares remains at the very top of the to-do list, however no appropriate data source has been found as of yet...

true price?

when I use different method to find a price I don't find the same price:
On AF/FZART between JNB and LAX, I find:
with TVN 116089 ZAR
with PSH 110713 ZAR
and with ITA 118964 ZAR

What about this difference?
