Flighty 4.0 arrived at the Mac and might solve the problem :-)

Flighty 4 has arrived!
 

Hey Yall, we've launched Flighty 4 this week, with 2 features I'm sure you are all aware of – but have never seen integrated and automated to this degree.

1. We've taken "Where's My Plane" to the next-level. Using Machine Learning on turnaround times to predict how much your late arriving aircraft will delay your departure. So if you plane is 2 hours late, but you still have sufficient turn around time, we won't bother you! And the opposite... how often has your flight been "On Time" but clearly the aircraft is an hour late. Yep, we solved that with automatic tracking, calculating, alerts, and then follow on alerts as soon as anything changes (tail swap, or the rare "making up time"). Our predictions have been >95% accurate to-date. (And we ALWAYS show the "official times", we never replace them with our prediction, we just show our prediction alongside it.) We also redesigned the Where's My Plane tile to make it even more

2. We've integrated FAA NAS and public Eurocontrol data to automatically do the same thing many of you always do – checking NAS for ground stops, probably ground stops, delay reasons, re-routes, TMI's, ... you name it (Including EDCT's for those that know what those are!). We parse allllll of that, figure out which apply to your flight down to tail number + time + route and then alert plus list what affects or will affect your flight, in plain language.

There's a few more other things, like live airport performance trends, a new Where's My Plane design to make it even more clear where your plane is along the journey with big red/green/orange badges, improved tail number coverage, and showing your aircraft's name (eg. how JetBlue and Lufthansa name each aircraft).

This all comes together in a new "status bar" that has added the top #1 concern for each flight *at that time*. Some examples:
- 8 hours before your flight we might say "inbound plane is 2 stops away and running on time"
- 3 hours before your flight we might say "ATC is monitoring thunderstorms at JFK until 1:30pm"
- 2 hours before your flight we might say "ground stop at ORD is delaying your inbound flight but you it should still enough turnaround time"
- 30 min before your flight we might say "probable ground stop starting in 50 mins"

There are over 300 custom summaries, each with infinite variants based on the late aircraft and actual ATC info.

*Our goal is to always show "what would a flight nerd who studied this flight, right now, tell me, in plain language."* and you can tap on it to see more info where we came to that conclusion. :) We're very proud of it. So far the response has been extremely positive. But with something this large we expect to make some tune ups too. I'm excited to see what yall think!

It should help you diagnose flights faster, and maybe replace some of the manual work you do for family and friends on flight statuses too. :) It's all part of Flighty Pro (with no price increase). I’m fairly sure American Airlines will do their part and throw in some delays to test it out :)

I would love to be able to export passport data here. It’s great to see longest delays, for example, but can you show me every delay? You have all the data, it’s just not really sortable or searchable in an easy way. I’d love some flexibility there.

And when my plane is at an airport I’d love to be able to click on other planes and see their journeys.

And I would like to be able to search and view other flights without adding it to my database.

Seems like an impressive improvement, I was right subscribing by trusting your announcements hehe.

I’ll be very curious to test tail number allocations in Europe / Africa / Asia. To me this was one of the biggest gaps vs competitors in showing accurate information.

I am a user since beta days and to tell you the truth I was thinking into cancelling my subscription after all this time. I've seen that for lot of information I needed to open Flightradar and correlate. The new update was released while I was on an intercontinental trip and it integrated the exact info I needed. Good timing, will continue to subscribe.

My “Friends Flight” tab is now showing all my flights interweaved into friends flights I can’t seem to filter out to only show my friends flight. And it seems to be keeping past friends flights as well and not being deleted. Happening on my iPhone 13 on iOS 17.5.1

on my old iPhone 8 on ios 16.7.8 is showing correctly. Only my friends upcoming flight is shown. Not showing mine or past friends flight.

any suggestions?

You'll have to email support. Sounds technical. But FWIW 99 out of 100 times this turns out to be the user inputing flights into the wrong tab.

Yes, we are aware that FR24 is exceptional at tail numbers (we do 10+ things they don't) but we know tails are critical – we're always working on it, and looking for ideas, and this was a particularly big step.

Yes, we of course have every delay :) but so far the need to export them all hasn't bubbled up. Mostly folks want more in-app views. Which we ship every end of year.

4.0 adds the ability to view the Flight Details of a flight that is not saved, so that was a HUGE start on this! Easiest to see if you tap on the flights in the Where's My Plane section – we show the flight details without requiring it to be added. That was the first step to both of those requests! (To be clear, I'm not saying they are imminent.)

Updated iOS and macOS to version 4. MH 721 on Aug 11 2024 from KUL to CGK still not showing gate (which shows on Google again), which is assigned as G8 but last minute changed to G6. Flighty shows neither.

That said, the delay predictions are pretty exceptional so far.

Flightly gave me a notification for a change of plane yesterday, from A350 to A330 which is not surprising as Malaysia Airlines' A350 fleet is a mess with AOG and delays although the flight is in 8 days. What is odd is that ExpertFlyer and the Manage Booking still show as the original A350. Where is Flightly getting its information?

Any tips on adding class of service to previous flights in bulk? I have about 900 previous flights loaded into flighty. 90% of them are in economy class. Is there a way to just mark all of them as economy and then I don’t mind going through and changing the others to whichever is the right class

Huge fan of this app and have been spreading the word to many friends, you’ve earned a lifetime user flightyryan - great work.

Just one issue I’ve reported a few times that hasn’t been taken care of. Flighty is telling me that P2 851 (Air Kenya) on Tues Oct 29 and P2 854 on Sun Nov 3 have been canceled. I reached out to Air Kenya and they confirmed that neither flight is actually canceled. I assume it’s only an issue due to poor data quality and availability from Air Kenya’s side. Never experienced any bad data with larger carriers. Would you mind looking into it?

I had a cancelled flight on Aug 29th, AC98. The app alerted me stood at the gate even before the gate staff knew - great stuff! However Air Canada subsequently created a new flight on Aug 30th, AC2098, which Flighty still cannot find. Other apps like FR24 have it in their database now.

The error message on Flighty when trying to add states you're "considering allowing manual input" but what can I do in the meantime - it'll mess up all my stats and map not having it in my historical flight list! Anything you can do to add AC2098 on 30th Aug 2024?!

When you enter a flight number that Flighty doesn't know about, there should be a "tell us what's wrong" button that allows you to send Flighty the flight information for them to add the flight into their db. I had to do this for some UA 3XXX rescue flights that weren't immediately available in Flighty. The flight was added a few days later and I was able to add it to my past flights.
