But what is "CRCHFT"? Trying to understand the reason...

I'm still learning about EF. Could it be your booking class ? Are U traveling in gin Business?

inlanikai Feb 6, 2016 10:45 am

The information has nothing to do with the person (EF user) making the query or booking classes of the flight.

I *think* it is the initials and/or the station location of the person who made the entry of the information.

The fare information does not work properly with 'Show Fares for All Travel Dates:' option. Does it have to do with the underlying engine change or is just a coding/ update bug?

The search is working the same as before, nothing has changed, we just tested it. If you need further assistance please email us the specifics of your search to customercare@

In the future please post any help request to the ExpertFlyer Help Desk thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trav...sk-thread.html

With some airlines you need to specify out and return dates in the future for the results to display properly. Any dates will do but if the return is left blank, I've noticed it doesn't quite function consistently with every airline.

Availability? EF says "yes;" AA says "no"

Weird situation...created a seat alert on AA#898 departing SFO 2/24 bound for CLT. A few days later, I received an e-mail stating that two (2) F seats were available (2A, 2F). So I called AA's EP desk who stated F was fully booked; no seats were available for sale. Logged into AA.com incognito and, sure enough, F was showing "no seats available." I've logged into expertflyer daily for the last three (3) days and seats 2A and 2F are still showing as available. Has anyone seen this before? I'm sure there is a logical explanation; can anyone tell me what it is?

As per our FAQ:

Does the amount of Available or Occupied seats on the Seat Map correspond to the amount of available or sold tickets?

No, the Seat Map just shows which seats have been assigned to ticketed passengers or not. There may be tickets sold to passengers who have not yet been assigned a seat. In addition, some airlines don't allow seat selection until 24 hours before departure which will result in many more Available seats then are available tickets.

So 2 unassigned seats doesn't mean 2 available tickets. Use the Flight Availability search and Flight Alerts to track ticket availability.

I'm probably just missing something, but....

I read and understand that...but (and I readily admit I may still be missing something!) the situation I encountered is as follows:
Day 1: Check AA#898 on EF. All F seats shown as "occupied" so I created a seat alert.
Day 3: Received seat alert from EF advising me that 2A and 2F were now open.
Day 3 (later): Called AA to inquire about either seat 2A or 2F; was told they were sold.
Days 4, 5, 6, etc.: AA.com shows no F seats available; EF shows seats 2A and 2F as open.

So here's my question. If seats 2A and 2F were, indeed, assigned on Day 1, how would they become "unassigned"? I called AA within minutes of receiving the seat alert from EF so it's kind of hard to believe both seats could have become open, then booked without seat assignment within minutes. Also, AA isn't one of those airlines that "don't allow seat selection until 24 hours before departure" so I don't think that's part of the explanation.

Again, if I am being "dense," I apologize in advance; I'm just trying to understand....

It probably is a system glitch or a bug somewhere

Seats do become released and reserved again all the time [many people will change their flight reservations], but it should be in sync across AA.com and EF and the telephone desk.

It doesn't sound like there was any glitch or bug at all. He's making the assumption that if 2 people changed their booked flight, that the inventory would be immediately released again by revenue management. Even less likely that it would be made available for an upgrade on a flight where F will likely be sold out.

A released seat doesn't necessarily mean released ticket inventory, especially since you don't know why the seats were released in the first place. Again, you cannot make assumption about ticket inventory, especially the upgrade inventory you are looking for, based on the seat map.

Also, a Seat Alert shouldn't have been created to monitor upgrade inventory. To do that, a Flight Alert for the proper upgrade class is needed if using eVIP/miles upgrades (A for First). This likely led to the confusion in the first place.

I believe you're reading the situation (as I initially did) as maxwell109 wanting to change seats within the F cabin (ex. from 1A/B to 2A/F). But on further rereading of OP's post, I get the idea that they're ticketed in Y, and are looking for the upgrade. Am I understanding you correctly?

Thanks, thats what i actually do normally - dont put any return date if search for fares for 'any dates'.

Actually i checked now and in my case the fares with travel restricted dates do not show up even if i add the return date (until i put the right dates that comply with fare rules).

To let EF know: this is not seasonality issue, this is 'travel restriction' category issue. I do get all low/ high season fares in my search, but i don't see promo fares with travel dates restricted.

I will send a message to the support team, maybe they can understand what is causing the issue.
