With more and more sites requiring multi-factor authentication, AW is probably going to slowly die if those websites do not have any sort of official support for their service.
Seems like most of these companies want the direct engagement with their customers, and using AwardWallet just lessens that. |
What other options are there?
I’ve been searching, but it seems like every option I come across either has a paid subscription, they want me to hand over my log-in credentials for my frequent flyer programs, or they limit how many ‘manual’ accounts I can keep track of. I keep track of my family’s miles and points and was thinking of creating a simple app that would basically be a glorified excel sheet, but in a way that was easy to see and understand. Everything would be inputted and updated manually, and there wouldn’t be a limit to how many family members or programs you keep track of. Since I mainly focus just on traveling, it would only be for airline miles and car and hotel points. Any thoughts in a simple app like that? I will add that I’ve never created an app before, but am just thinking about since it goes with my hobby if traveling :)

By all means, go for it, but an app is a lot more complicated and expensive than you think. (App developer was a prior day job, so I'm speaking from experience) |
I know it won’t be easy, but I like learning new things. As far as the difference between it and an excel sheet, as I mentioned, it would just be like a glorified excel sheet. But what I like about an app is that I can change the visual to see my ‘excel sheet’ in an easier way, plus send me something like a push notification for expiring miles or points so I don’t have to constantly look at it to know if I’m going to lose any miles. I currently use an excel sheet. It’s not meant to be a money making app and I’m not worried about how long it might take to create since it’s just a hobby, but it would also just be a nice easy way to see what my family has available for travel, without all the advertisements and subscriptions that the current apps I’ve found and tried have.
I appreciate your advice as a previous app developer, and am not trying to underestimate what’s involved. I just prefer to have a hobby that keeps me learning than spending time watching tv lol |
I got an email today saying tomorrow is the last day to get $30 x 5 for 5 years. It indicated I have received this offer before but I don't think so. I'm inclined to take it; habit, I suppose. I've used Award Wallet since it was launched. But I do wonder if it will exist for five more years.

They chose not to publish my reply to the blog at https://awardwallet.com/blog/awardwa...rice-increase/
Clearly don't want people questioning their action. |

Logged in here for the first time in years to express how happy I am to have finally dumped Award Wallet. I was keeping it around at $10 a year for the "lifetime" discount they no longer honor. Had so many problems with the site and app over the years. Glad to be free.

Chrome extention
I don't see where anyone else mentioned this. The AW browser extention has been removed from the Chrome browser store. It is available for Firefox.

It was a tough call for me... I've been using AW since it launched, including back when they asked for $5/year as a donation/voluntary, and I've always supported them since it was such a unique service. Been on the $10/yr plan since it became a thing and happily paid that every year.
In the end, I bit the bullet and did the 5 years at $30/yr... $150 I figure either AW will improve its services and figure out partnerships with sites requiring MFA, or it will be dead within 5 years, and in that case, I just donated $150 for all the past great years of service. But in 5 years... to go to $60/yr? I just dont see that being worth it unless they have solved ALL 2FA issues and introduced some seriously meaningful benefits I cant even think of right now (ie, maybe a partnership with PointsYeah or SeatSpy or just bought by TripIt and integrated). Ah well, will think of that 5 years from now. |
I was about to bite the bullet but the offer had expired.
|
Well... In the end they saved some of my points from expiry for more than the value of one year under the offer so I extended for a year. I will actively seek a replacement though. Since keeping an eye on miles isn't going to work other than via actively checking your balances, the value has gone down. They're not checking my bookings for changed seats / aircraft anymore either which was very useful in the past.
