Just a tip for anyone who reads this:
Although the T&C's of this credit state that it cannot be used at the iTunes store or fore electronic gift certificates, several folks are reporting that they have been able to buy actual iTunes gift cards at Apple Stores.
Just an idea if you're looking to put your $100 towards music and movies.

As expected, the iPhone has been announced in the UK on O2's network for delivery from 9th November.
And its still an EDGE device as opposed to a 3G (WCDMA) device
According to the report on the BBC and the Apple release, expect it to cost 269 (~$540) for the 8Gb model, for sale at Apple Shops, O2 Stores and Carphone Warehouse
Useful...
It seems rip off Britain is alive and well. Basic math tells me that me total cost of ownership starts at 899, 1079, 1259 before any insurance or out of bundle costs.
Ok Apple fanbois... who's queuing up outside the Apple shops on the 9th Nov
:P?

I bought a 4gig iPhone yesterday at the Apple store in Houston, TX. I already had AT&T service, but couldn't keep my business discounted service plan with the locked iPhone.
I followed a set of manual step-by-step instructions that were posted in response to people having trouble with the GUI tool, and it unlocked fine.
I thought the 8925 was going to be the phone for me, but after using the 8525 for the month, I couldn't get past the complexity of Windows Media and the near requirement to use the stylus. I also wanted to tether the 8x25, but the T&C's for the cheap data plan prohibit it, so making due with less than 3G is fine right now.

Three new great value iPhone tariffs will be available from O2 starting at £35, which all include unlimited anytime, anywhere mobile data usage and, in a market first, free unlimited use of the UK’s largest single public Wi-Fi network, covering over 7,500 cafes, restaurants, airport lounges, pubs and other locations across the UK.

Gave the Iphone to my wife
I bought an Iphone last Saturday, after jailbreaking it, simfreeing it, I start using it on T-Mobile, played with it on Sat, Sunday and Monday, then I realized that I still prefer my old Motorola Z3, I am not a music person, and the phone was too bulky. I gave to my wife and she is pretty happy with it. The Iphone is just not for me, it is an entertainment device and I need a working device. I think it would be great on weekends though...

Sooooo - can I at this date still "activate" just the iPod portion and Wi-Fi and other applications and not have to pay AT&T or any other wireless carrier. I bought the $299 4Gig IPhone on the Apple web site - don't need the phone and DO need a calendar that you can add events to on the device. I want to synch with my itunes and download video pod casts in particular but i don't want to pay for the phone part which I simply will not use. If it is possible to activate just the iPod / Wi-Fi etc. can you recommend the curretly best site/software? Finally, is it likely that Apple will have something in iTunes mess this us when I synch my iTunes in the future?
Thanks for your help!

I think that apple will continue to push out updates to either the iphone or itunes, that will break any hack. But, one can always avoid updating itunes unitl whatever hack they are using has been shown to break through the update again. It is a bit of a cat and mouse game, but it certainly isn't a real hassle if you are happy with the current functionality of the iphone and the itunes and then just leave it as is for a while.

There is no way for Apple to deactivate it, or unlock it. Once it's done, it's done. Apple may (and probably will) release updates to the firmware that relock it, but there's nothing making you install those - it's always optional. I have unlocked four of them now, and they work great.
