- Digital Compass and FM
- 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus
- 32GB size
- No major changes in battery, screen and external casing.
Won't all these features shorten the already very short battery life?

The only one I'd expect to have significant impact would be the clock speed of the processor. If they put in a chip that can easily ramp up and down as needed based on load, that would probably mitigate most of the power draw. Ramp it up to 600 for graphically-intense gaming, then down to 200 while you're typing an e-mail or something.

The camera shouldn't be an issue - it'll only draw more power when it's active, and even then, not a whole lot more juice.

I remember I used to have a utility for one of my WinMo phones that would re-clock the ARM processor for certain apps.

I was once exposed to the world of cell phone power management and it is incredibly, incredibly deep. I'm not going to even try to explain any of it in a Flyertalk post when you need a two day class just to get introduced to it.

Well the point is you can't just sum it up. And most any attempt to guess about the power subsystems and their appetite for the battery are bound to be just simplistic guesses. I'm sure that anyone who really knows the inner details has signed an NDA in any case.
