Given the thread you posted in (T Mobile Global data coverage) your question is somewhat ambiguous. Are you asking about tethering to Apple TV while roaming internationally?

Anyone have any experience with BingeOn and tethering to an appletv?

I would never rely on these free roaming deals unless I get it in writing that I will not be charged. I don't want to come back and be presented with a $10,000 bill because of some misunderstanding or fine print.
Easier just to get a local SIM, they are cheap. Here is a question about Project FI, it says $10/gb internationally but is that per country and per billing period? Say during the billing period I visited Thailand, Indonesia and Singalore and used data there and collectively did not exceed 1gb, is it $30 or just $10? I used less than 1GB last month domestically. That cost me $10, but credited the unused data. I then used enough overseas to bring it back above 1GB total. Here's how the billing worked. Unused dataCredit for 0.369 GB at $10/GB . ($3.69) Then I used some data in Panama and Canada: Data usage Panama 0.378 GB at $10.00/GB Jun 12 75.4 MB Jun 13 15.8 MB Jun 14 108.9 MB Jun 15 89.6 MB Jun 16 22.9 MB Jun 17 13.5 MB Jun 18 4.4 MB Jun 19 56.2 MB $3.77 Canada 0.031 GB at $10.00/GB Jun 20 29.9 MB Jun 21 1.5 MB $0.31 So three countries, including the US. Data usage: 1GB - .369GB + .377GB + .31GB = 1.318GB. Charges: $10.00 - 3.69 + 3.77 + .31 = $10.32 I was also billed for $20 (basic service), $10.38 (1/24 of the price of the Nexus 5x), $2.22 regulatory fees and taxes (this would be more, but we have no sales tax here) and $3.40 for 17 minutes of calls made while in Panama. There were other calls, but they occurred on WiFi and did not incur charges. Total for the month ? about $46.

I ordered several phone SIMs and one tablet SIM. They all came in the same packaging but one of the "phone" numbers was very different than the other (similar) ones. That was one that I originally put into a phone and it did not work. Couldn't activate. I then put it in the ipad and it worked fine. So I think I can say from this experience that a tablet SIM doesn't work on a phone.
The SIM comes in three sizes (all in the same package), including nano, FYI. |
I can sort of answer the question regarding a DATA ONLY SIM, I have a Thinkpad with a Sierra Wireless Modem built-in and T-Mobile was able to setup a "MI" line which according to the manager is voice barred, except for 911.
The big question is if it will have free international DATA at any speed 2G, 3G, 4G, or LTE. He was unsure and the rep I spoke with on the phone wanted to say yes, but was not 100% and did not want to say one thing and in fact it was another. She said she would research it and get back with me in 24h and it is 3 weeks later and I have not heard a word from her (didn't think that I was going to). Haven't tried to use the DATA Modem in my laptop overseas and have no International Travel planned for a bit, so won't be able to try it either. Added to that, I do not even know how to send/receive a text message on my laptop, so I would not have any way to know if T-Mobile were to send me a text message with International DATA Rates. |

I know this because I have 2 iPads with DATA only SIM's and each with the 1GB Simple Choice North America plans. I have used free high speed data in Canada & Mexico as well as 2G in UK (before the current summer promo started). Obviously, the MI Data on Demand "Free Data for Life" plan is not included in this since it's not a paid plan, which is required. Hope that helps! |

Follow up: very next morning I tweeted T Mobile Help. I was using DM but while waiting, I switched back to Cosmote and I was getting 24/14!
And it carried through to tethered devices. Not sure what changed but was happy about it. Then I went to Mykonos, where the hotel is a bit east and above the center of Mykonos town. Was only getting 3 bars in the lobby but still decent speeds. Much better in the town. In the room though, I was only getting about 2-3 Mbps. Switched to GR vf again and got about 15/4. Most of the time Cosmote seemed to have better coverage but in some cities, especially in hotels, Cosmote speeds were very inconsistent. In Chania, I always got 4 or 5 bars on LTE but the speeds would be all over the place, from less than 1 Mbps to like well over 40 Mbps on speed tests. This forced me to switch carriers to Vodafone in a couple of places and the combo provided good speeds in most situations. Tried Wind in a couple of places but never could get coverage. I took advantage of the speeds to stream and download shows to my iPad as well as keep the apps. updated on several devices. Would be great if T Mobile ran more of these promotions or permanently offered these high speeds. Oh and on the way back, had a one hour layover in Zurich where Sunstar LTE gave over 68 Mbps up and under 2Mbps down. |

Macau -- Phone roams onto 3 Macau, data not working. Text and voice works but data doesn't ("PDP authentication failed" as reported earlier in this thread). Tried all the steps listed in earlier posts in this thread, reboots, #ROF#/ON, LTE on/off etc. Other networks when manually selected only get "no service".
iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Worked in Taipei as expected just 2 hours earlier. |

Also there is ZERO chance of picking the wrong network in a Simple Roaming country and getting charged. Simple Choice plans will NOT allow data roaming to be active where T-Mobile doesn't have a roaming agreement for inclusive data. Meaning if the country has 3 networks and only 2 work for Simple Choice roaming, the 3rd one may only work for SMS and Voice but will get NO data roaming. CAVEAT: If near a border, ensure you are roaming on a carrier in the simple roaming country vs an adjacent country that may not have Simple Roaming. Reports of users in Israel near the Jordan border picking up Jordanian networks and getting charges $1000's of dollars, hence why the suggest above to turn off chargeable roaming is essential T-Mobile has put all this in writing - FREE roaming in the xxx number of countries. As long as you are on a network in those countries you will not be charged. Now granted you roam along a border into another country NOT part of simple roaming then that is you as a user not taking that into account. Edited the FAQ to add a warning to turn on block chargeable roaming - important in areas where you may by accident roam onto adjacent country networks (e.g. Israel in border areas) and some SEA/South East Asia countries near border areas Also clarified what is needed for LTE in China (TD-LTE enabled device and which bands are needed) EDIT 8/5: Updated Ireland to reflect O2 is gone (merged with 3) and that Meteor does work. Note: getting reports of Vodafone NOT working in the UK - this is NOT the case - may be a specific authentication issue but it is working and I have verified this with a user today. |

Hope you dont mind me asking but we are travelling to the UK in a couple weeks and will have about 7 days in the UK with this 4G LTE data and then about 14 days of 2G data... first time with Tmobile and roaming without planning on changing our sim cards too... usually we have used our O2 sims but thats just a pain to keep up with and have to "top up" all the time and then lose money when you dont use it all. For the iPhone5s you have - did you have to change any APN settings? (what version of iOS are you running? 9.x?) thanks in advance! not sure where my last post went... got a brief window saying it was going up for moderation...? anyways - to those who have traveled to the UK and been able to get the 4G LTE to work, or even the 2G to work... Did you have to change any APN settings? What phone/device were you using? (if Apple - what version iOS?) thanks in advance! |

Heading to Italy, then ultimately to Greece. I have a Project Fi phone, Ipad mini with Tmo 6 gb, Toggle, and Piranha. The Toggle and Piranha are left overs from the past 3 years. I intend to do some sampling and report back.

T-Mobile
I have just changed my mobile carrier to T-Mobile since it gives me free data and text in 120 countries.
I will be going to England and Italy. Can someone with first hand experience comment on T-Mobile's services in those countries? Also, while I am in England, when my friend reply to my text (presumably it will be to my US number) will it cost them? |
