I got a similar one in Hong Kong. Must be a gremlin in the system.

In Chamonix France, getting LTE on Bouygues. Not bad in the main town but wonder what it will be like on top of mountains.

The journey here took me through LHR and GVA.

I got the SMS notification for O2 in the UK and then Swisscom in Switzerland.

But as soon as the van I took crossed into France, no notification but it first connected to SFR. But no Internet, just PDP authentication failure.

Turned off auto network selection. Tried selecting Orange and it would not connect, no service. Tried several times.

Went back to SFR, again same PDP error message. Tried sending text to my Google Voice number. Nothing.

Finally manually selected Bouygues and the text came through and Internet worked.

Went to auto and it now selects Bouygues though still no welcome text.

In previous trip to Lyon and Paris, could never get it to connect to Orange.

Has anyone ever been able to use Orange in France?

So your call to the US T-Mo Customer Care worked on those networks but the data didn't?

That's odd.

Did you dial 611 while roaming on the international networks to reach T-Mo customer care?

Sorry. Been away from FT for a while.

Did not call 611. Called the International Number +1 505 998 3793 from the T-Mo phone.

Of concern was almost immediately ALSO started getting SMSs from T-Mo saying you've used $xx amount of international data roaming. I thought that I had perhaps toggled on the higher-cost "full-speed" data plan rather than just the slower "free" international roaming. Called T-Mo customer care back and spoke with fellow who told me that I was cool and that these messages were sometime sent in error but that I was good and on free data. He noted my account so that, if I get nailed with a huge international bill. Hold thumbs.

Today, 11 Jan, checked back in with T-Mo and no charges on my bill.

Perfect in Lima Peru But Terrible in Cusco

Not sure what happened but when I got into Lima, Peru everything worked perfectly. I got a txt as soon as i arrived in the airport and was getting data as soon as i landed. Cusco was the exact opposite. I CAN txt and make calls but data has not worked for the 15 days that i've been here thus far. The weirdest thing is that it is still the same carrier Movistar and in some areas like right now it has full coverage. I've tried #763# then #766# i've reset network settings. Reset phone, airplane mode, everything imaginable(i think) and still have not had any luck getting any type of data in Cusco.

Could T-Mobile just have terrible priority where it's less than a 1% chance of getting data?

I checked and my account isn't blocked so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Call t-mobile (there is a free number to call if u don't have it I can look it up )

Also you can see if the apn has somehow been lost, but not likely if you can text

I have the TMo Simple choice plan. Ok, TV commercial showed the SC New North American Plan which now includes Canada and Mexico. Plus 6gigs of data, which I had 5. The new plan is cheaper, so I switched. Saving $5 and I get an extra gig of data. So I called TMo just to confirm and ask a few questions. It would to be my advantage to switch so I did.

CS rep did offer to sell me quite profusely I must say; a data package for overseas. Saying that WiFi calling isn't very good should I use it. He also said that Wifi wasn't always available. I'll be in Paris and Amsterdam. However, I know better and thanks to FTers I'm confident I can succeed.

How has TMobile worked out in Russia for those who have tried it there? We'll be in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Usually TMO reps don't upsell. WiFi calling works quite well and we had very positive experience during our 3 days in Amsterdam, May 2015

Worked fine in SP, again May 2015.

Works flawlessly for me in Russia. You'll not have any problems (and I say that knowing it's still Russia and weird things do happen there).

Thanks for the info on TMobile in Russia.

I had no issues with T-Mobile, but if you travel anywhere west of Moscow and need faster service, I would pick up a Beeline SIM at any vendor. They are very cheap with current market rates. ^

Just got back from Costa Rica. Service on Movistar worked as expected on arrival in San Jose, and fairly well along the beaches near Tamarindo, but reception was very spotty in the mountains while traveling to Santa Elena in Monteverde and La Fortuna near the Arenal volcano. Service in the towns themselves were fine, but I would not rely on phone GPS unless you look up the route before leaving. I was told most locals use kölbi, since the former government monopoly has a head start on infrastructure in rural areas.

I did connect to Claro briefly near Playa Flamingo in lieu of Movistar, even though I was unable to register on the network earlier in the trip in San Jose.

Reporting from Madrid. T-Mobile doing great!

Seamless transition between the three companies in the Wiki: Orange, Movistar and vodafone ES.

Getting 4G LTE with Orange on my Note 5. Have not tested speeds but this is clearly some of the best T-Mobile has behaved during my travels.

Will get a chance to test France and the UAE soon.
