Basically, they are doing away with data plans, effective Sept 6th, and going to all unlimited data. However, no indication this has anything to do with extending LTE in Europe.

Regards

Looks like Europe won't be extended...
T-Mobile Plans website has this under "Unlimited Travel"...

Unlimited everything in Mexico and Canada
Unlimited text & data almost everywhere else in the world

Text & data available in 140+ countries and destinations. Simple global speed at up to 128 Kbps. Image does not depict coverage.
Too bad!

On a recent trip to Haiti every time I dialed out to the US I would get a recording in French Creole. What the heck it was saying I will never know.

Now planning a trip to Vietnam this fall, I don't want to run into the same problem of not being able to dial or receive calls from the U.S. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be, the T-Mobile people are pretty clueless.

Thanks!

Vietnam is gonna be a bit expensive, as they are not in the country list anymore...

I just noted the wiki has Vietnam, but that's not correct, I used Vietnam back in 2014, but somewhere in 2015 that changed... I went back there around Oct last year and it was already gone.

I think the best thing we can do is always cross check with the official country list before getting into our destinations.. http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-p...countries.html

And the +1 advice I think its the best one to solve those communication problems while you are abroad.

Tips to connect a T-Mobile iPhone in Jamaica

I've had problems this week - when I switch on the phone it will connect to Digicel for about 1 minute and then disconnect.

After much trial and error you will need to:
  1. Switch off LTE for Voice and Data
  2. Switch off Automatic Carrier Selection
  3. Manually Select Digicel as the Carrier
  4. Restart the Phone.

I've tried this a couple of times now and these are the only settings that work for me.

My iPad still shows Vietnam as one of the covered countries if I pay for fast data. I assume that just hasn't been updated, but I'm tempted to screenshot it, buy the fast data, tether my phone to it, and see what happens.

I happened to be in Vietnam when T-mobile got rid of the coverage, with less than 7 days' notice. Fortunately, the coverage was ending the very day we were leaving for Thailand.

Unfortunately, they haven't restored the coverage ever since.
This means we have to buy prepaid SIM cards every time.

The prepaid cards are not expensive. The problems are:
1) requirement to unlock both our phones. You can't use the VN SIM card otherwise. This is a process we have to repeat every time we upgrade phone.
2) It makes it impossible for us to take advantage of any T-mobile phone upgrade plan, since they won't give the unlock code unless the phone is paid in full.
3) it wastes time on a trip to go hunt for those SIM cards on your first day. At least my husband is a Vietnamese native speaker, so there is no issue obtaining them.
4) missed calls/messages left to your US number
5) playing SIM card switcharoo when you want to call the US with your regular US number, since US phones only have one SIM card slot (yes, I know, you could use other services like google voice, but it's extra work, a different number)

Personally, I find it a major inconvenience that T-Mobile removed the coverage, especially as we travel to Vietnam every other year.

I would certainly rather pay a fixed fee to add Vietnam while on our tripa if it were possible, rather than deal with all the hassles above.

We have had problems with coverage in the Philippines also. The service completely stopped working on our last day of travel 2 years ago. No voice, SMS, or data. Painful when you want to call a taxi to get to the airport ! This time there was no notice from T-Mobile, and they still offer service there officially.

This may have been an outage with the telecom company that T-mobile partners with in the Philippines. It also is possible that T-Mobile shut us down after 3.5 weeks in Asia and heavy data usage on both our phones. I never actually bothered to find out since it was just a one day outage.

Yup. It worked as of a few months ago and you also get sms, just no voice. I think I activated mine with a tablet (Nexus 7) IMEI? But it was almost always used in an android/iPhone.

Regarding no voice... What if you tried Google Hangouts or WhatsApp ?

If you have data would those work for placing calls?

Thx

Beware if you cancel Tmo!

I transferred to a different carrier and EVERY DAY I am getting notices from different credit cards (that I didn't even know tmo knew about!) that tmo has notified them that my number has be "disconnected", usually they ask if it was transferred and give me a way to "reactivate" it in their system.

What a waste of time - I never gave any info on these accounts to tmo, nor any time I've transferred providers before (even from land lines) has anything like this happened!

Yes. I bought a data only SIM and used it in an iPhone with Google Hangouts a few times.

There is a thread somewhere on FT (I think in OMNI) about how someone's Amex expired, got a new one, and SiriusXM already had the new card details in his profile.

Someone else explained that SiriusXM probably subscribes to some kind of service from all the credit card companies to get new credit card information pushed to them for subscribers. This is to help reduce delinquent payments due to customers not updating their credit card information. I imagine T-Mobile has a similar service that alerts companies of customers who cancel their service (either willingly or delinquently).

Quick question: I am traveling to Bolivia in a couple of days, and the list of the 140+ countries included in the simple choice plans has disappeared from the T-mobile website.

Does anyone have the list anywhere or know whether Bolivia is covered or not?

Thanks.

The link still exists & Bolivia is a covered country. http://www.t-mobile.com/optional-services/roaming.html

Well it's 01 September which means supposedly T Mobile's summer promotion is over, dead, finished. Or is it? Reading all sorts of releases as of yesterday that they updated their new T Mobile 1 plan claiming one would get 3g speeds on data abroad or that's what it seems to say (whether it's unlimited or not is not all that important because lots of wifi is available but that's another story.

Here's the question that I can't figure out. They say it is allowed to keep my old plan (Simple Choice). As of today, what kind of dats speeds do I get included say if I travel to Europe and/or elsewhere? 2g? 3g? 4g? Help help.

Man - I can't nicely load the T-Mobile homepage because it's using Flash. I get a HUGE warning.

Seems crazy that a mobile provider would be using Flash still.

Carrier.

Reverts back to regular 3G speed.
