Which airline. Only know of Delta using GoGo's 2Ku solution for outside US.
Issue is the other GoGo customers don't use GoGo for non North America flights. |
Any Experience in Ecuador and Galapagos?
Anyone use the service in Ecuador/Galapagos? Which carriers work there, and how was the quality?

Galapagos: Ha! Tiny bit of service at the airport and maybe one other island (Santa Cruz?) and then totally, 100% dead everywhere else. But that was the same for everyone else on our ship, no matter the carrier. |
Data Point- Data only T mo sim in an ipad mini. 15 mbs down and 2 up in Buenos Aires and Ushuaia (LTE in Ushuaia so its not a backwater). Dec 7 to Dec 21. I was able to get H in the Beagle Channel about 10 miles out of harbor.

Got great speeds in Germany and Netherlands the past few weeks. Then hit Belgium and back to 2G -- hard to use! Put my Project Fi SIM in and things were better.
I originally signed up for Project Fi because of the better international data speeds, but both TMO deals hit at the right time and I haven't used my Fi SIM much. I would probably drop it if TMO keeps up with the international LTE but I guess that is not in the cards... |
Did you try changing the carrier manually in Belgium?
Couple of people reported getting only 3G in the UK in the last week. Maybe T-Mobile is already doing Brexit ... |
When I was in Brussels (back in July), I was on LTE on Proximus, but it kept flipping between Proximus (LTE) and Orange (unusable 3G)

Movistar has VERY limited 3G in Galapagos; BOTH have better 2G support. There is a chance TMO roaming may be blocked by either carrier due to the higher cost of comm to Galapagos and their roaming agreement not covering it Images of all coverage here: http://imgur.com/a/hOphz |
T-Mobile is no longer selling the cheaper Simple Choice plans which start at $50 a month.
Instead, you're forced to take the "unlimited" data plans which have limited tethering. Existing subscribers of the older Simple Choice plans are grandfathered in. The "unlimited" plans start at $70 but if you want full tethering, it's supposedly more like $95. That's a lot to pay for access to international data. If they try to force me to "upgrade" to the "unlimited" plans when I change my phone, I'll probably bail. The unlimited international data is nice but pay $30 more a month for this BS? Better to buy local SIMs at that point, unless they give you full-speed international roaming or at least regular promos of full-speed. Even then, you're talking about $360-420 more a year, since "unlimited" data is pretty useless if you can't tether all of it. |

Music Freedom lets you stream music for free, BingeOn lets you stream video for free, and you still have tethering, plus international roaming. Now T-mobile One rolls taxes into their advertised price, so that 2 lines for $120 really costs $120. I'm not getting it because it doesn't have tethering (and I had 2 lines at 6GB for $80 and then they had a promotion right before Thanksgiving where they gave you two free lines, so now I have 4 lines for $80). I do NOT like T-Mobile One and I do NOT like that they messed up the pricing on Simple Choice, but I'm figuring they'll crack on the prices before too long. This new thing with rolling in the taxes, that's a real saving, and the One Plus now includes international calling (including to wireless numbers in lots of the covered countries) and so if that's something you want, the One Plus (which includes TRUE unlimited tethering) is a decent value if you get it for one line out of multiple lines. So they have been making changes to make T-Mobile One less bad, and you CAN still get Simple Choice and they fixed their website so it is not as much of a pain to find Simple Choice as it used to be. |
