They are still selling the Simple Choice plans, and they've made them easier (though not easy) to find, though they took away the special pricing plans:

Before making an "authoritative" post on the internet, it's often wise to use The Google Machine to verify facts. The Simple Choice plans will no longer be offered to new customers effective January 22nd. Existing customers can keep them but for new customers it's T Mobile One only. So yes, technically you are correct, they are still selling Simple Choice plans but only for two more weeks.
"T-Mobile says unlimited plans will be only option" http://www.whio.com/technology/mobil...YqUrKxjg2UP8M/ On this we agree. I believe this is a major misstep on Tmobile's part. I was seriously considering moving my wife and I over to T-Mobile this year, but not now. I think they are vastly overestimating the number of people that need/want unlimited data (particularly at this price point). In fact, I'm beginning to feel like TMO is going from being the "Uncarrier" to becoming very... well... "carrier" Regards https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-...S00W055QZJ6425 OK, read that and look at it and see if you can find anyplace where it says Simple Choice is going away. Do I believe you over my link, yes I do. Do I think that it's beyond t-mobile to have slopped everything all up and given out correct information to the press and wrong information on its own website, no I do not. But you can see why I believed what I believed. I think you're right and I'm wrong, but I certainly hope (and I'm sure you do too) I'm right and you're wrong. Look at the third to last FAQ! Do I believe it over you, NO. But it says the opposite of what you say (and I believe what YOU say) in the plainest possible terms. The Simple Choice price structure that I thought they still had was worse than they had before, but I thought they still had it. And while you are right that they are overestimating the number of people who need unlimited data, what they are offering is "unlimited" data. No decent tethering. They are VASTLY overestimating the number of people who need "unlimited" data. They were ALREADY offering essentially unlimited data. My wife uses a LOT of zero-rated data. NOW they have this stupid plan (which is incrementally getting less bad) but is getting more and more and more byzantine. Did they sign up for a contest to see who was best at alienating customers? Are they developing a business model for messing up a successful business? Yeesh. |
Prior to the Simple Choice plans, I was on a grandfathered plan left over from when they were a contract carrier. The Simple Choice plans would have halved my data from before. They sent me plenty of emails and postcards to switch, and then I received a postcard saying that they will pick a Simple Choice plan for me if I do not pick one myself.
I still did not pick one and they changed my plan. I complained to them and told them that I have been a customer for 8 years, they were about to lose four of them. They switched me a Simple Choice plan similar to the plan I had before (which still halved my data, but there was a promo that doubled it and it would be grandfathered in after the promo), and gave me the first month free so I stuck with them. Just because old plans are "not offered" doesn't mean they will still be available indefinitely. |

OK, what you pointed to is a press story and what wco81 linked to is a press story and I tend to believe them actually, but look at this:

Got great speeds in Germany and Netherlands the past few weeks. Then hit Belgium and back to 2G -- hard to use! Put my Project Fi SIM in and things were better.
I originally signed up for Project Fi because of the better international data speeds, but both TMO deals hit at the right time and I haven't used my Fi SIM much. I would probably drop it if TMO keeps up with the international LTE but I guess that is not in the cards... |

The whole reason I left T-Mo for FI was the fast international LTE.... if T-Mo extends their Summer Unleashed promotion globally and indefinitely, I'll be back to T-Mo in a heartbeat. Heck, they could even charge me $35 a month extra and it would STILL be worth it. For now, Project Fi is working out great.

Looking for any updated coverage reports in Taiwan, Hong Kong and UK - reports of all of those having further narrowing of roaming partners. What we need is a) Name of network b) were you on 2G/HSPA or LTE. Thanks!
If you can edit the Wiki yourself, great, if not just post a reply here and someone else will edit the Wiki - I normally do right away when I see such reports. |

In China, T-Mo partners with China Mobile now (used to be CHina Unicom). China Mobile's LTE bands are incompatible with most phones T-Mobile sells, meaning you'll end up roaming on whatever ancient protocol their LTE network falls back to. Your best bet, is to buy a Verizon, Sprint or "Sim Free" model iPhone, then using that with your T-Mo sim. You will have better global roaming that using an actual T-Mo iPhone. |

In China/Taiwan/HK, the roaming partners can be problematic mostly because of the frequency bands those partners use. For example:

So it looks like the normal 128 kbps from those speed figures.
We can only hope T-Mobile brings back the high-speed promo again this summer. |
