Typical price from NYC or IAD to BKK

I just started looking into a 2-3 week trip to BKK in June 2012 and am wondering what a reasonable price from NYC or IAD would be.

I searched a few weeks ago and saw $800-$1K roundtrip (1 connection) - but now I'm seeing $1200-$1600. Am kicking myself for not buying then... Can anyone advise on the likelihood of the fare dropping again?

Who knows ? Maybe sign up for 'Fare Alert' on Fare Compare or Kayak. When it gets in your sweet spot - you'll get an e-mail.. $800-1000 is really cheap. Check out Eva's Hot-E-Fares too. Maybe you can snag a bigger seat for the same price as Econ. wj

you will have at least one stop if not 2 on the cheaper flights , I am not sure if Thai Air even flys direct from the East Coast and if they do its not cheap.

But under $1000 all in for a summer flight is a good price,

Just keep looking but be ready to jump if the cheap fare shows up

Used to have a JFK nonstop with the 345, but no more. Only TG flight to/from U.S. is nonstop BKK/LAX and return.

Going to Thailand for the first time in May.

I'm seeing rates at Park Plaza Bangkok Soi 18 for 1040 thb per night, 3 night min stay. Fully refundable. Just a couple weeks ago I think it was at least 1800.

Is it a good deal? Is this a decent hotel?

Excellent deal especially since it's refundable. Where are you seeing that rate?

Thanks just made a booking myself. I've stayed at the other PP property which was very comfortable so I expect Soi 18 will be similar although smaller rooms. The rate also includes internet and if you book online as a Club Carlson member, a room upgrade.

Is there another capital city on the planet that has better value for money hotels rooms than Bangkok?

Not for long. Starting May 1st there will no longer be a Thai non-stop flight from the US to Bangkok. The flight will now make one stop in Seoul both ways.

Makes sense. These ultra-long-haul flights are extremely costly to operate.

Probably won't help at all, though Sofitels never participated with the 50% sale promotion in the past ...
