My approval arrived this morning...yay!

NWplatinum Feb 7, 2022 3:25 am

Where is the best place to check the status of your application? I’m still waiting several days now despite getting confirmation from the hotel and providing all documents. It also says my information cannot be found but I might’ve clicked the wrong link.

where do you go to see your status? Thank you

Davvidd Feb 7, 2022 4:05 am

Are all the test and Go hotels for 24 hours? What happens if your flight arrives in the morning? Do they charge you for two days if you have to check in before 12 noon? The Novotel at the Airport says they have flexi hours and it is 24 hours. So if you check in the morning then you can stay till the next morning. None of the other hotels I have been looking says that.

You will get charged for one night’s stay. After your test result comes in, you are free to go.

My flight arrived at 7:00am and check in around 8:30am, got my result next morning at 10:00am, I was only charged for 1 night.

If the flight comes in at midnight and check in around 2-3am, I guess the hotel will charge for 1 extra night.

Thank you very much. Which hotel was it? I have emailed a few hotels and no one has responded yet apart from Novotel Airport.

Marriot is saying an extra half a day if you check in after 0600 and if before 0600 then an extra day. They also say the test results are in 6 to 8 hours. Anyone know any hotel that is cheaper than that but would give in about at least 8 to 10 hours?

Which Marriott is this (there are 10+ Marriott properties in the city)? - sounds like they are tyring to capitalise on the situation :td:
We used Waldorf for our Test&Go in December (under the previous scheme) and although being HH Diamond may have had something to do with it, we checked in at around 8am and left the next day at a one-night charge as expected.

Only place to check the status is here:
Thailand Pass Registration System (for air travel only) (consular.go.th)

Unfortunately, it gives only a high-level status of approved/rejected/reviewing and does not tell you which step it is in exactly or what is missing.

Davvidd Feb 7, 2022 5:23 am

So I have to book two hotels and get confirmation from both of them before I can apply for the Thai pass? I am not staying in BKK after the first night if I get a negative test result.

Davvidd Feb 7, 2022 5:30 am

Rapid AQ Reservation Request
To qualify for the 1st Day Test & Go you must have proof of vaccination. The selected package does not meet the entry requirements on its own, you would need to book another 1, or 4 Day Test & Go Package to meet the requirements with this package option.

This hotel offers 2 Day Test & Go, and 5 Day Test & Go Packages which meet the requirements fully (with a bundled discount).

This is all what I am seeing on the asq.in.th website.

indeed yes

as to your previous question: Pullman also charges one day for 24 hours when you arrive in the early morning (no surcharge for early check in)

Davvidd Feb 7, 2022 6:06 am

I am getting a bit frustrated with the booking system. How do the others here book? Do they book directly with the hotel or thru a third party like Agoda or Booking.com?

Check Marriott Renaissance. They offer a "rapid" test with results in 2-4 hours for a modest upcharge, but their regular test now shows 12-18 hours.

They approach it a different way. You book a regular room rate, then "add on" any needed Day 1 / Day 5 items.
Click "rate rules' under the Test and Go package

2,000 Baht for airport transfer

2,500 THB for PCR test (12-18 hour results)
or
4,000 THB for PCR test (2-4 hour results)

Is this for most of the test and Go hotels too?

I have checked a lot of the Marriott Bangkok properties, and Renaissance is the only one that prices it this way.
Others have an "all inclusive" package and their own rate rules. You have to look at each one to compare them all.

I had a very nice stay at Renaissance late last year (regular guest, not T&G). Very organized and responsive.

Applications seem to be moving pretty fast. I applied on Saturday night BKK time, and received a approval on Monday afternoon BKK time. (This is for departing this Friday afternoon, so I was cutting it real close).

Just make sure to call your hotel to make sure that they've approved your reservation in the system. At that point you're just going need to wait for the government to do its job, and I assume they only do so during regular weekday working hours.

Both times I have entered Thailand in the past two years, it has been directly with the hotel. Major chains (like those in the Marriott portfolio) tend to be responsive about the booking requirements and emailed me afterwards requesting all the documents and sending the required documents for the Thai Pass system fairly quickly. Be careful of booking on Agoda and Booking since it seems many people get confused and select a regular room rate instead of the required Test & Go packages. If you have a contact directly at the hotel you are planning to stay at, that obviously helps as well.

I book directly with the hotel. Booking via third parties can create problems for you later, IMO.

5 times from August 2020 all directly with hotel. Easy, quick, one-stop, responsive and able to pay extra for quick test result (less than 2 hours in December 2021). Additionally points if status, can choose if available and want location of room and when 7 or 14 days stay required pay for exercise equipment in room. It is a no brainer.

SKT-DK Feb 7, 2022 10:43 pm

Always directly with hotel for me too - regardless of covid times and regardless of destination.

Davvidd Feb 8, 2022 12:12 am

I have emailed many hotels and most of them have not replied. Oh. The Novotel Airport did reply along with Marriot. The JB Marriot rates on their website and their email do not match at all.

Are you comparing Test & Go package rates? I know for the JW Marriott, there are different prices now for Day 1 Test & Go and Day 5 Test & Go that are significantly different than regular rates. When I emailed them before and set up my Test & Go, the rates they provided matched the Test & Go packages that were listed on their website.

Have you tried Le Meridien ? They used to be an ASQ hotel so are very well versed on processes etc.

JW Marriott has Test and GO package. Price is 4760 per night. Every night.

This is 1300 per night more than the best available rate. If you stay 5 nights, that's 6500 more.

If you stay 10 nights, then you are paying 13000 more.... How much do 2 PCR tests and one-way transfer cost?

Sounds like a robbery.

The worst part? This is all pre-paid. Non-refundable. You can't change plans!

kb1992 Feb 8, 2022 2:00 am

duplicated.

plain Feb 8, 2022 2:02 am

Just received a call that first test is negative :)

Everything has been pretty smooth except for passport control takin ages (people don't have documents ready) and the morning traffic from airport to hospital/test center.

Hope it goes well for you too!

is there any fast track back?
so many airplanes are now arriving at the same time during early morning in BKK...last year hardly more than one at the same time

If you choose a single night, you can book either the day 1 or day 5 package... then make a regular booking for the other nights and have them merge the reservations, or just contact the hotel reservations through email directly and tell them what you want. I emailed and booked the single night for Test & Go and the other nights at the regular room rate and the reservations were merged. Also keep in mind that the Marriott website averages out the cost over the nights typically so it seems like the daily cost is higher but the cost is just spread over over the 5 days. You can see this when you click through and see the summary of charges. Day 1 is more expensive than Day 5 due to the transport also included. For comparison, the day 1 test and go for March 20th for a single night is 5862 THB compared to 2925 THB for the lowest prepaid rate. Day 5 on March 20th would be 4672 THB. In any case, I would just book separate reservations and have them merged. I don't know why you would book 10 days under that 5 night package, but these booking requirements from the government also might not be the easiest to build in logic for on the website.

Davvidd Feb 8, 2022 3:16 am

I have got the first one day one in Novotel. Now for the day 5. Is it the 5th day after you land. For eg: If you land on the 20th then the day 5 is the 25th and I have to test and isolate on the 25th until I get a negative result?
also I have been just told the business community is up in arms and they are looking to change this whole thing maybe next week. But I cannot take that risk.

maerim Feb 8, 2022 5:01 am

One well known 'agent' states today that 'If you are booking your stay through external platforms the hotel must directly issue you a confirmation letter. Without confirmation letter from the hotel there is a very high chance of getting a rejection on your submission from the hotel'.

Of course the above may be 'marketing'.

There is no fast track on arrival, ......unless it has changed in the last 2 or 3 days. This is based on a friend who arrived at the weekend.

Fast track on departure has been in use on my last 4 departures in the last few months, but unfortunately not the auto-channel for Thais or non-Thais. Last week fast track moved to A, where or close to where TG BC fast track was or still is.

As you probably know, in my experience staff check one flight at a time; maybe this has changed in the last week or so with more flights and passengers especially from 05:30 to 06:30. Process is efficient and quick; the problem is the passengers are not so organised and it would be better if the airlines advised passengers before landing what they have to show on arrival.

12 days ago I was first to depart the plane and it took less than 5 minutes from then to being met by the hotel staff. This included going to the Thai Immigration Lanes, which I am allowed to do.

if you arrive before 6pm, it counts as day ONE...so if you land on the 11. before 6pm, your 5. day will be the 15.
if you arrive after 6pm, it counts as day ZERO...so if you land on the 11. after 6pm, your day 5 will the the 16.

eccentricfusion has it right in their comments below.
I would also add that most (all?) the T&G packages show as nonrefundable, but some allow date changes. And there is likely some note in the T&Cs that if you test positive before departure, then you can cancel as well.
I have been using Marriott properties and they have all been very reasonable to work with thru these stays. Might help I have high status with them.

Interesting. Hope they have some sway and get it relaxed. I am planning to come back at the end of February. Have held off applying in hopes that the Day 5 goes away before I arrive.
