HS-TGW (Star Alliance) has been reactivated, bringing the old F 747 count back to 4.

Am booked on ICN-BKK this week and was originally scheduled to be on a 744. It got changed to a 773 about 2 weeks out

Happened to me last night on TG658 - was 744 changed to 773 about a week out.

As BinSabai notes, no great loss since unlike when the 744 is used to SIN where there is a chance of gaining the F seat, Y and J are the same between products. Using a 744 in a 2 class config with TG*G access to F seats would be a nice step up for TG658 !

HS-TGX was ferried to DMK the day before HS-TGW is reactivated, supposedly for heavy maintenance. So the old 747 count in service remains the same.

I took the 747 to Munich at Christmas: upstairs, really its awful and like stepping back 20 years. Arrived grumpy and un-rested. By contrast , the BKK-FCO a couple of weeks ago, A350 IIRC, couldn't have been better: proper flat bed for 8 hours of sleep of the dead.

I am on TG 924 MUC in J on March 29. Based on the last few weeks it seems almost all flights are the upgraded aircraft, in J is this full flat or angle flat bed?

Thanks

both 747 types offer just angle flat seats in J (which are actually pretty similar); the big difference is in F (suites versus single seats)
full flat in J just on A380, 777-300ER and 787; later some more 777 types will be upgraded to full flat seats in J

I suggest we be clear on what cabin is referred to between 747 swaps (old to new) or 747 to other aircraft.
as posted above,
first class-- big change between old and new, sad downgrade to J if swapped to a 777

Business class-- no change between old and new, upgrade to flatbed if swapped to a 777 (there are old 777s so no change in J sometimes).

cheers!

Just got TGd on F BKK-KIX from new to old 747. IS the new product so much better that it's worth me changing my routing? This is for an overnight flight so was planning on enjoying DOM and going to sleep any way.

the DOM is the same...and after 2 bottles you will feel little difference between old and new
certainly suite is better for a quiet sleep, but single seat are also full flat. and it is just around 4+ hours
