My 09AUG BKK-FRA appears to have changed to the old config as well. Time will tell.
If it means anything, TG920 on that date is zeroed out in all cabins...

I've read the whole thread and am still very confused -- assuming a few others are as well. Could someone answer the following few questions to help those of us out...
1) Are all Thai 747-400's getting reconfigured with the new suites? If not, are others going to be retired or flown in old configurations? What routes do/will the old configurations fly?
2) How many of the Thai 747-400's are reconfigured with the new suites currently?
3) What is the nomenclature going on here -- a 747 and a 744? I gather they're all 744's but Thai calls one a 747 to denote a different configuration?
4) Is there a guess on a time by which all 747-400's will be reconfigured or retired?
TIA

1) Currently 16 aircraft in thais fleet. 6 will be retrofitted, 2 will leave the fleet this year
2) none (tga was in some kind of maintainance for 3 weeks, but still flies unimportant routes like hkg, hkt, fco -> i guess it has not been fitted)
3) 744 (eqals 747-400 on some systems) is the current F. 744(eqals 747-200 in some systems, however 7472 is the internal code for old F planes, so called 'All series')
4) Refit: official dates: finished by October; 2 retired in 2012,2015,2016

So 6 retrofit, 2 retired...that makes 8 flying with the old configuration til their retirement?
Are there specific routes for these birds? If the 380 switches from CDG to LHR, is CDG a good candidate? FRA?

Yep--whole thread. I think what was confusing me is I assumed that some retrofits must've begun by now, but I couldn't seem to find where. 0/6 makes sense.

after 6 aircraft have been retrofitted there is none with the very old F. So any 747 should be fine.
candidates (also in this thread): i.e. FRA, MUC in 2012.....SYD 2013

Basic answer is that you can't until you are actually on the plane with any certainty. Even before this introduction, TG was notorious for switching aircraft around at the last minute (sometimes referred to as TG roulette). You can get an early indication by looking at the F seatmap though. If there are only 9 seats, then it is the new F config. Anything else isn't.

TGY performed some time of test flight today
http://www.flightradar24.com/2012-07-25/06:34/THA8304
with several touch and go (or similar) maneuvers.
Can't be too long till it's ready to go!
edit: HS-TGY still not back, but HS-TGZ has now been ferried for retrofitting, it seems...

What an interesting program the other week and a full refit (6 year interval) on a BA 747 at their maintenance facility in Cardiff (UK)
It took 5 weeks and they basically ripped everything out, engines off the lot, it was like a brand new plane in the end, didn't say how much it cost bet I bet it was a lot of money.
I'm flying with TG in Nov in F from SYD-BKK-LHR it would be nice to get the new suites but I won't get my hopes up and just go with what they put on the day of our travels.
Thanks

How long does the retrofitting normal take?
