I'm guessing "new posts" has always been present in the mobile skin and I simply missed it because I became so accustomed to the trending page.
But, now that I've found it, I'm going to give it a test drive to see if I enjoy scrolling through new posts and choosing threads that appear interesting based on their titles and/or popular.

People, let's let IBJOEL do what he (or his higher-ups') needs to do. If it brings in more readers, great! If it loses a lot of their major contributors, that's their issue to resolve as well. All we can do is use it or not, move on or not when the time comes. As he has stated, the trending page is not making a comeback regardless of what is said here. While we might not want to accept it, it is what it is.
I will hang around, but participate less as my interests evolve (and the board's direction changes).

Impossible to say if that's the case. Maybe they'd have 20 times if they removed it.

"Bring back the trending page please"
Stop pleading, they don't care.

So the only thing I can think that might influence management is take the advice we give to people unhappy with an airline. We walk with our clicks/eyes. If the traffic goes down significantly, that might change management's mind. The hope being that this is done before the more prolific posters with the significant active knowledge base leave for greener pastures.
As I have said, I have noticed a drop in traffic in the existing threads and forums I am subscribed to. But others might not have experienced this.

To be fair, I haven't explored it completely to see if it can group by subject lines (or threads with new posts even), but if all I see are BA posts, then the page isn't going to help that much.

YYZ and eqeqeqx are essentially right.
Let's lay our cards on the table: I make $22/hr after nearly 9 years here. I HELPED DEVELOP Trending.
If you think I make the call to cut it, you're out of your GD mind.
Corporations are not your friends. It doesn't matter how much time or money you've invested. Every decision they make is simply to fuel unsustainable "infinite" growth, whether it makes you feel horrible or warm and fuzzy. You and I are just some numbers on a spreadsheet to them.
Now I am trying my best to manage this situation and work something out that is a feasible replacement. So you've gotten it out of your system, I've taken it, because I get it. I truly do. Late capitalism is a true Hellscape. But I really don't need the contnued attacks, please and thank you.

I use the New Posts functionality on a regular basis and have always preferred it over Trending Threads.

I'm back! I've found New Posts is just as much fun as Trending ever was. Actually, some of the 'smaller' posts are as good to know as anything I learned on the old Trending. Thanks for the pointer Canarsie. And to IBJoel, thanks for your patience with us as we vented our hurt at the loss of Trending. It's an unenviable task.

I can see new topics (a shortlist of topics) on the main page but https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trending.php still says page not found.
