I'm on my linux laptop using mozilla with no problems, I'm sure if I went to the other machine with IE I'd be in the same boat as you guys ... so now we're left with a totally non existent search engine on FT and still have low performance. What the heck is IB doing? Is site hosting their business or not? Seems not.

It's now been happening for about 15-16 hours, and it's even worse now that it's daytime in the USA. Why on the weekends when it seems everyone is off? The last major indexing problem was the same thing, it went on all weekend.

The search engine is really pretty good, although there are aspects of it that aren't as good as the old one, there are a lot of things that are better. The big problems have been when the indexing failed.

I'm just choking on this one - have you tried to search within a thread lately? You get the thread returned and that's it - IOW it is totally and completely useless - not sure what you're searching or using but it is unlikely to be the crap they recently installed.

This is a known issue, but there's an easy workaround for this one (unlike some of the workarounds) that's been in the search problems thread for quite a while:
Search this thread>advanced search and make sure "Show Results as" has posts selected. Sure it's one extra step, but it works great, and you can search for airline and airport codes, which wasn't possible with the old FT search.

Right now I am running into problems with the system slowness (not too significantly slow, mainly by a few seconds of delay) and occasionally non-responsive (i.e. clicking on any FT handle, trying to see either profile or post history, but nothing would happen. Tried three times in a row).

Is this a Monday night system blue or what?

The search failure (and need to use Advanced Search) should be pointed out a little more by the FT teams.

As you say, it is a very easy workaround, once such knowledge is shared.

The speed of FT seems fine now and I only noticed slowdowns a few times recently.

Unless you take the time to read the 253 posts in the search problems thread, it's not easy to find this info. I know lin821, a few other FTers, and I have spent a lot of time on that thread, attempting to find workarounds, get Mikel, Kevin, etc. to answer question, acknowledge problems, and give us updates. I know that Canarsie was planning to update the Using the Search Feature on FlyerTalk: The Definitive Thread, as soon as the new search engine was more workable, when/if that ever happens.

Maybe I'll take some time to go over the problems from the search problems thread (a lot of it is just FTers venting), make a list of the problems/issues, PM Mikel and get an update as to where those things stand now, and start an IB Search Tool Workarounds for Known Issues (and issues awaiting a solution/workaround) thread (where FTers can post solutions/workarounds for the issues raised in the thread search problems thread. Of course then I'll have to keep editing the first post to update it.

Hello, again. I've only had a few isolated instances of any real delay Mon./Tue., and they were all ads taking forever to load.

Like I said, it's not very significant. It was just a few seconds of delay when I reported it, during that specific hour/moment. It only lasted for about 5-10 minutes. Not sure if that's an ad-loading or traffic flow issues.

It's not really that big a problem. I thought by reporting any "abnormality" of the system performance, tied with the time stamp, might give the IT folks a good data point to diagnose the problem spots.

I'm sure it could, but that would require someone to monitor this thread and put it together with whatever other data they get from the servers. I don't think they care enough except for major glitches.

On another note, I printed out the entire search problems thread, next, it's colored highlighter time: problems, fixed, workarounds, suggestions, etc. I'll probably PM the list to you, if you don't mind double checking that I got everything, before PMing it to Mikel and starting the Master List of Search Tool Solutions/Workarounds (or similar). It's probably a while off, and I may do it by sections, as I get a full page of them.

Sadly, it may be true.

However, being an end FT user, I just do what I can do and report the problems I encounter. What IB and FT IT staff decide to do with (or ignore) the info, that's beyond my control.

If you need an extra set of eyes, I'll do my best. I am not a techie, so don't expect I'll catch them all. Instead of pm, send your list to my email, so I don't have to worry about the quota of PM. (I don't have the privileged 2500 limit. )

I hope IB will appreciate you volunteer so much of your personal time. I also hope they will take in all of our input and make our FT visits a much more pleasant experience.

Very generous of you ed ... truly amazing the members we have.

I don't want to put a crimp in your plans, but I should let you know we have already compiled a list of the issues that have been raised in that thread and placed them on a task list. If you would like to continue to compile the list you have and send it my way that would be welcomed, but I'd hate to see you spend a lot of time unknowingly duplicating effort.

I think the workaround thread is a good idea.
