Really?

I'm a pretty simple guy with simple requests, and one of those requests is that the e-mail problem get sorted out so I can start receiving my daily forum updates again. The problem has impacted me for at least six months and I've tried three different e-mail addresses with different domains, none of them work.

Could this be a problem with my e-mail accounts? Possibly, but unlikely. Could this be an FT problem? Definitely.

There are clearly folks in this forum that are more technically savvy than me when it comes to understanding the intricacies of e-mail. But my view is quite simple, the forum update e-mails stopped working from one day to the next and at least six months later there still isn't a reasonable explanation of the actual issue. What are Dick and the tech team doing to fix this issue? Perhaps they could start posting in this thread to explain themselves? Moreover, who is accountable for the success of this website?

Perhaps this problem is too big for the Admins to handle and we should take this up with the people at IB or Hellman & Friedman directly...

 The "admins" that are posting in this thread are IB...

This issue has been ongoing for several months and, as of now, I am not aware of any flyertalk member that does indeed receives forum updates. Nobody in this 17 page thread came forward and stated that everything is working fine.

I do not believe that there is a reason to keep this thread active and recommend to close it.

We have provided information on trouble shooting. However nothing has changed and no one has received any subscribed forum updates for several months.

Further discussion, IMHO, is pointless.

Since I said I was changing my email to a completely different not Google Apps domain, I am here to report that I continue to get thread specific updates (generally) but still don't get forum updates.

And I don't understand why I would get one type and not the others - and have that be related to the domain my mail is residing on.

Can someone explain how that is even a possibility?

I understand the frustration with not being able to receive the forum updates. As an administrator, I rely on forum updates as an easy way to monitor the very many forums I look at every day. This issue is impacting us internally as well. I really do get it.

And this truly is as complex of a technical issue as has been stated here. I speak with our tech team on a regular basis about this. I assure you they are doing everything they can to diagnose and resolve the problem.

There has been a workaround posted here by a knowledgeable longtime FTer that seems to work for most people. It may not be the best solution for everyone. I get that too.

For the time being I do not have an ETA for when a solution will come. Until we know what's actually happening, we can't resolve it, and that's the part of this problem we're stuck on.

All the information that you have posted here is very helpful. We won't close this thread for that reason, and because it's an ongoing technical concern (which is the purpose of this particular forum), and because this is the place we will announce the resolution when we have it.

I will stay on top of this internally, and get information out to this thread as I have it; meanwhile, I truly appreciate the help and the patience that has been displayed here by the users affected.

Since I get thread updates at the office I know that FlyerTalk is not blocked by my company.

Well, at my personal account I still get thread updates but no forum updates. That would indicate to me that mail relays are not the problem as these addresses are totally unrelated.

Email issues are notoriously difficult to resolve. Between IB and you, there are innumerable places where an email can be lost.

Have admin-access to my mailserver and can read the log. No traces of forum-updates from flyertalk there.

Same here - no forum updates, only threadupdates.

I am not surprised ;)

Thank you Discus -- that's potentially useful data!

And just for the record - I'm receiving emailalerts for this thread

Any progress on this?

so3003 Dec 27, 2011 11:27 am

Ironically enough, I got an email update for #252 above, so something must be working!

Thread subscriptions work for me, the forum update emails are still broken.

so3003 Dec 27, 2011 11:45 am

I "unsubscribed" then re"subscribed" to the BMI forum, and I noted that the default setting within the subscribe dialog option was "no email updates", so I've changed this to "daily updates" - I wonder if they did something that reset the default for all threads to not receiving any summary emails...? I will await my digest email tomorrow morning with interest.
