Interesting.
Not that I care all that much, since browsing FT via email is about the least efficient method of keeping on top of FT, but it does seem odd that it was working for so many years and then just quit. It seems to me that if it was a core VB issue, it seems like it would have never worked at all, although I suppose the interplay of a number of factors could have intersected to trigger the failure. Maybe it's time for a VB upgrade for FT. ;) |
Silent here, should we just consider this case dead and closed?

You could almost write a book on what has happened with this simple little feature over the last few years. I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

If you'd like I can complain again.
It was working for a while, and now it's not. |
Because of this debacle I cancelled all my subscriptions.
It's more fun over at PPRuNe Passenger Forum with fewer prima donnas - unless you count the pilots |
No email notices all morning, and then about 20 of them all in an hour this afternoon. I was around FlyerTalk, so I knew there was a lot of activity in my subscribed threads. Oh, and up until the hiatus, I had been opening almost all the linked FlyerTalk threads.
But I got a/the aol upgrade yesterday, so that tipped the scale in my favor, as in, it was "me". Anyway, seems to be working, although the emails have been keyed to random posts made since last night in the subscribed threads - sometimes the earliest, sometimes the most recent, sometimes in between. And FWIW, I often have a hiatus on Sundays, and then the email notices come through late and pick up over Monday and Tuesday. I just don't take the time to bring it up here. It always seems to self-correct - so this isn't a complaint or a request for help - just a trip report. |

Similarly, Fredd, maybe five since yesterday's batch, and now a whole aol pageful in the last hour. Haven't looked yet to see what time the posts that prompted them occurred.

I wonder if someone needs to be driving the overall email notice system - that is, pushing it - rather than it just taking care of itself. I wonder this after lots of Sundays in which the system, or coverage, seems to take the day off. Or, maybe if we don't activate, say, 3, 4, or a certain number of links, and just delete after reading the email, the system stops notifying? Maybe this has been pondered and answered before.
BTW, I just noticed that Mikel, who used to help us out, has joined Mr. Peterson at MilePoint. |

It now seems to be working normally again for me. I'm getting e-mail notifications of new posts within a few minutes of their posting.

E-Mail notifications arriving in batches up to 48 hours late
This has again become an intermittent problem for me.
I was on FT August 6 and 7, and my e-mail program was on and checking automatically throughout. This morning, August 8, I found 41 FT notification e-mails in my inbox. The earliest one is August 6, 7:37 a.m. and there are a total of 10 from the same day. There are 26 e-mails dated August 7. I checked my e-mail yesterday into the evening until all but the last five would have arrived. There is one e-mail in my inbox dated August 8. Looking at my New Subscribed Threads, I should have received four more. This problem has occurred before. I posted about the problem again yesterday in this thread but there hasn't been a response. The last time this happened a lot of other FTers reported the same experience. It probably goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway ;)) that delayed notifications of new posts to subscribed threads that arrive up to two days late in a huge clump aren't very useful. I've experienced similar problems with UA's Easy Updates over the years. Is anybody in IT checking this out? Thanks in advance. Edited to add: Several hours later e-mail notifications are arriving more promptly, although not instantly as they have in the past. FWIW it's almost as if a water faucet is being turned off and then on again. |
I will ping tech on this, but last I checked they were not doing anything to cause it.

I did just receive one notification two minutes after it had been posted; however, I am missing earlier notifications when I look on my list of subscribed and unread threads. |
Notifications on new posts (thread-subscription) is working in my end, but still nothing on forum-subscription, that is the daily overview with new/updated posts. :-(
