'Make a Green Choice' (MAGC) Decline Housekeeping for 250/500 Starpoints or $5 credit

The point of MAGC is no room service (period) - not sure where the notion of it just having to do with linen comes from? If you require newly laundered towels every day for every occupant - and you want your freshly used ones promptly picked up and carted away - MAGC is not for you.
For properties that offer 500 points, there will be zero housekeeping services, period. Housekeeping won't even enter your room. At least that's my experience.
Perhaps William et al can clarify this?

From past experiences, I've always gotten 500 points with zero housekeeping done. As in they don't enter your room at all. It's as if you put a "DND" sign on the door. However, if needed, you can call them to get more toiletries for example.
I don't see the point of asking new towels (or ask for linen change) if you go for MAGC. The whole point is for the hotel to save money on laundry, get a few bonus points to the guest and oh yeah, help the environment a bit?

From my understanding, hotels that offer 250 points for MAGC will still offer basic housekeeping services such as vacuum cleaning, bin-clearing, bed-making and amenity (ie shampoo, tea bags, bottled water) refills. No towels and linens will be changed, though.

Basically, guest who opts for MAGC would decline all housekeeping services including room cleaning and trash removal.
Items such as coffee & bathroom amenities will not be automatically replenished, but you may contact housekeeping for additional items if necessary.
So it all depends on each property if they would do a little cleaning or none in your room.
Hope this clarifies.

interesting discussion on this last page. Last year when I stayed at a Sheraton in Orlando and opted for MAGC they did pick up trash daily. This time, nothing (they didn't even enter the room). The exact wording of the T&C seems to indicate that we're declining full housekeeping which means to me that we DO get very limited service. By the third day of MAGC, I had to go down to the front desk and ask for toilet paper. No big deal but kind of weird in my book. Maybe my experience last time seemed more "normal" or appropriate (i.e. housekeeping does a really quick check of trash, water, TP & toiletries but doesn't touch linens or make beds) but reading here has given me a new perspective on what Starwood wants to accomplish as far as staffing and saving money on service (not just on water and detergent).

On a side note, we're at a Courtyard by Marriott that offers MAGC, but for only 250 MR pts. Declined because my wife likes the luxury of maid service and 83 SPG pts is not worth the effort of freshening the room myself.

I always choose MAGC partly because I don't want people in my room. Many times on MAGC stays >2-3 days housekeeping still freshened the room even when I had a DND sign on the door. My last two SPG stays (5 nts & 4 nts) housekeeping did this after 2nd nt, even though front desk assured me it was noted on my room comments. If I need something replenished I ask the front desk because they usually have it there, so I don't know why housekeeping still feels the need to do my room.

Stayed at a brand new Four Points hotel for seven days, Green Choice about three of them, didn't receive any vouchers or cards. Maybe points will post automatically? Who knows. I'll follow up with SPG if not I guess.

Tried the search but couldn't find, so not sure if this has been addressed.
However, I find every time I want to change my preferences on a Starwood booking, MAGC is defaulted to 'No' even if I check the box in the stay preferences. I'm booking through Concur but making the preference change on SPG.com at the same time I'm trying to indicate my check-in and check-out times.

In the interim, you can elect for MAGC when you arrive onsite.

I'm a fan of the MAGC program. Depending on the hotel property, with the placard on the door I've received everything from no service, light service, and full service. Most hotels seem to be inconsistent with leaving out the credit paper on a daily basis.

I’m staying at the Westin Punta Cana and the MAGC door tag says 500 pts a night, while the cards I have received say 250 pts a night. Upon further research N. America seems to credit 500 while Latin America credits 250 a night.
What continent is Dominican Republic considered a part of? Technically speak it’s N. America but since it’s Spanish speaking it can also be considered Latin America. I can tell this will be a debate upon my checkout and I’m not looking forward to it.
