I also elected for the 10% not points. Can I change my mind and just email and asked them to change it to the bonus points?

I called your online reservation number but the person I spoke to didn't have any idea what I was talking about.

PS: What is YMMV?
I received information from Best Rate Guarantee stating that any prepaid rate if charged for the full amount would be refunded within 30 days of the claim being approved. I hope this helps

Do you normally earn *Points on stays booked through the Aeroplan e-store? Or is it because it's an approved BRG that you earn *Points?

I believe that the Aeroplan eStore is just a referral site like eBates.com, but you get a rebate in miles instead of cash. The booking would still be completed on Starwood websites, so you still get Starpoints and elite credits.

However, for the rebate portion...
"Rooms booked at corporate rates or that require qualified proof of membership in a specific third-party company or organization are not eligible for the accumulation of Aeroplan Miles through the eStore."

This is the usual exclusion with referrals to Starwood now. No referral bonus for AAA rates. But when booking for a BRG claim, AAA and corporate rates are out of the question anyway.

Long on points, short on cash?

Why else would you take $8 off instead of 2000 bonus SPG pts? Even at a conservative value of 2 cents/pt, 2000 pts would be worth about $40. Not trying to be sarcastic here, would really like to understand your rationale.

Too many margaritas today?

The $8 saving is the 10% discount off the competing rate. The OP is staying 3 nights for a saving of $24 versus the 2000 pts. $24 should buy 2 more cocktails in the hotel bar

I didn't end up booking, but it would have been for 3 nights/3 rooms = $75 off. I value Starpoints highly, but not that highly.

Oops, I missed the part about 3 nights. Being a "one night per stay" kind of person, I forget that others may not hotel hop the way I do.

I'm confused.

The savings with Expedia compared to SPG is about $25/night. The savings with the 10% gives you an additional $8.33/night. Once the BRG is accepted you have the choice $83.65/night plus 2,000 Starpoints or $75.32/night. It seems that you took the $25 (3*8.33) over the 2,000 points. I'm not sure where teh $75 vs. 2,000 come from.

He wanted 3 rooms x 3 nights. You've calculated the savings for 1 room for 3 nights. Multiple your $25 x 3 rooms, and you get $75.

Actual rate to be confirmed: 1215.23CNY (1350.25CNY less 10%) plus tax

So I have a question regarding my BRG. The SPG person who helped me with this over email said I should bring the email along with me during check-in and they will apply the new rate. I noticed that my official reservation on the SPG website and over email did NOT include the final rate of 1215.23 CNY.

Is this normal or should I be concerned? I'm a little worried that I'll bring the email with me to Shanghai and they won't honor the BRG rate because its not on the reservation.

This is my first time using the BRG, so any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

A few questions:
1) They said there are about $4 in Expedia fees in addition to the $91 rate? I don't remember this booking fee on other Expedia rates that I've used with successful BRG, but anyway I took the 2,000 points and am happy!
2) The last 2 times I've checked in on these rates, the hotel couldn't find my reservation because it was essentially "inactive" due to the BRG. Should I call ahead? I see there are some other posts about Platinum recognition with BRGs.... Thanks!
