I stayed at the Westin Xi'An and also the W and STR in Beijing in my last trip there. If you are travelling with your father, I would tend to go for the STR. It is not as new as the W (STR was renovated in 2008), but it is well kept and certainly has a more conservative crowd that your father would probably appreciate more than the W. The W's lobby has a big night club vibe at night, particularly on the weekends.
As a Plat, the STR also has a happy hour club lounge. You can read more about it in the St Regis Beijing thread.

I'm not sure I would be comfortable sharing a room at the W due to its bathroom layout haha.

As a first timer in PEK with less than 24h on the ground and a 7:30am flight out the next morning, Starwood property would fit the agenda? I read the train starts at 6:00 and I'm out from the farther terminal, which seems risky.

The Great Wall Sheraton. It's the closest SPG hotel to the airport. I recall taxi fare being a little less than 100 RMB.

The Westin is pretty much the same distance as apparently the Great Wall is leaving SPG shortly.

Stayed at the Renaissance Wangfujing and was very pleased with the property. They have a rather long cocktail hour which is from 5 to 8pm if I'm not mistaken with a fairly generous spread.

Thanks. As noted by geminidreams the Great Wall is deflagging (July 1St). How long will a cab ride take from this area before 6am? I'm not a morning person

Hello!
At the following pricepoints, can anyone advise on which hotels you would choose?
We are a late-20's couple enjoying some time away in a city vacation. We certainly appreciate the hip factor of the W but would love to hear upgrade treatments in other properties.
W Beijing: $171
Westin Financial Street: $114
St Regis: $172
Westin Chaoyang: $109
Thanks!
