Do not trust them with a credit card

Hello All, I want to share with you my experience with the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

I must say that I am extremely disappointed with the level of service and professionalism which I have received from The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort team.

On 22 September I called SPG to book at this amazing resort with the following booking condition:
*Overwater Villa W/pool Nonsmk: King Bed
*Guarantee and Cancellation Policies (Debit and Credit cards will be authorised at check-in).
* FREE CANCELLATION TILL 26 OCT.

on 24th Oct I emailed the resort to cancel my booking, after a day I received an email saying that the total amount of the stay is charged to my card and that it is non refundable!

After contacting SPG and the resort regarding charging my card without any permission and breaching the terms of the booking I received an email (after 10 days) saying that it’s the resort mistake and they will refund the funds, as if it was a favor.

I now will be paying for the resort mistake by bearing 3% foreign transaction fees and exchange rate which is charged to my card.

After contacting the resort and SPG they both stated that they will do nothing.

All supporting documents are on hand.

Saved all your records and dispute it with your credit card if all else fails, they're you're advocate when merchants fail..

...am I the only one--considering the resort opened a few days ago--who began reading this post thinking OP was upset about his stay so far?

Glad it's just a refund issue (which obv will get sorted out)!

LOL - I kinda thought that too.

Looks like they cracked some 250 year old wine on day one.

Would love some wine like that! Where'd you see that?

Has anyone seen the menu for Decanter?

One of the 2 or 3 guest couples posted it on instagram. From what's floating around, it doesn't look like many there yet.

flight times

We land in feb at 15:05 on a flight from DOH. Anyone have recent conversations with the hotel about late afternoon sea plane transfers? hoping timing wont be an issue.

thanks

Best bet is to contact the resort to confirm whether times are an issue or not...

Looks like the poster complaining about the credit card experience is the first of 2 TA reviews...that's a shame.

Edit: never mind, looks like the review was pulled

If you call your CC company, they will often waive that 3% refund difference. Or you could just ..... online and do nothing about it...

Right on both counts. Actually I would go further and say the 8L/day is just one of those limits that isn't actually a limit. Such a property wouldn't dare charge for extra water in-villa.

And do we honestly think that room boys in the Maldives are going to break the rules and, for want of a better word, 'steal' water and put it in your room for free just because you gave them some cash? ROFL! This is what would happen (after 8 bottles are empty and guest calls room boy);

Guest: Could you please bring us some more water?
Room Boy: Let me see if I can bring you another bottle or two, sir.
* Room boy goes to housekeeping *
Room Boy (to housekeeping Shift Manager): Room 123 is empty, needs more water.
Housekeeping Shift Manager: You forgot the drill? Give it to him and say it's on the house and that if they need any more, just ask.
Room Boy (to housekeeping Shift Manager): Sorry, I forgot about that {unwritten} rule. Oh, and he tipped me for the water. What shall I do if he tips me again for water?
Housekeeping Shift Manager: Well, he tipped you, didn't he.....
Room Boy (to housekeeping Shift Manager): Uh, right.....

All quiet on reviews it seems. I believe they blocked rooms up until November 15th after taking some initial bookings, so I bet there has been a very limited number of guests so far.

Looks like I'm the FT guinea pig...

Oh, and the breakfast buffet for us mere mortals (non-platinum) is $55 ++

The great mystery of whether there are 16 bottles of water per day, or whether there are 24 (if they are 375 mL ones) shall shortly be addressed!!!!!!!

You're on the edge of your seat, I can tell. They said 8...let's see how many I can get.
