Unfortunately due to a hotels mistake in march I am going to miss this promo (the only promo I am eligeble for 2016) 
Back in march a element hotel screwed up my reservation BRG and droped the ball on it, so i ended up in a different hotel. Now I realized there just is no element left in my travel destinations so will end the year at 10 brands at best

Really enjoyed this promo because I tried a lot of hotels that I may have otherwise overlooked. Recently completed a stay at LM Phuket Beach Resort marking my eleventh brand and after hitting the previous nine and getting nothing, the bonus is a nice touch.

Out of curiosity, has anyone incurred incidential (non-room) charges at a SPG hotel, gotten points, and had that count as a "stay" for these purposes? I know SPG used to (maybe still does?) let people earn points from, for example, eating at the on-site restaurant, even if you weren't a guest at the hotel. I was curious whether those would show up as "hotel" points and trigger this promo.
Doesn't make a difference for me but I was curious if there were any data points on this.

I had a points stay with no charges and got the stay credit for this promo, so I think you're safe.

I am still shortage of 4 brands including LM W Design and Tribute. I do have a chance to make the 11 brands since I am heading to Paris/Boston/NY in the following weeks. I quickly calculated and I will need to spend 900 USD to cover these 4 brands on my travel dates.
I am already re-qualified platinum this year with the number of stays. I am still at 48 nights so need another 2 nights to get the 50-night benefit.
Should I get for the additional 4 brands?

if you are thinking of spending an extra $900 just to cover these 4 brands then i don't think its worth it....

The additional points aren't worth $900 even if used extremely well.
However, I'd definitely end the year at 50+ rather than 48 nights.

Would a stay with check-in of 12/31, check-out of 1/1 count as one of the brands for the 2016 promotion?
