I also would have loved to redeem at a Cat 7, though getting my last remaining extended SNAs to clear at the W Barcelona on top of the 35% & 5th Night Free meant ~2800 euros for 52000 points.

Redeemed 35% off and 5th Night Free (without SNAs) for Hotel Bristol in Vienna (October 2013). Platinum agent must've put some comments on the reservation as I ended up being upgraded to a top-floor suite (junior suite, I believe) with a private terrace and view of Vienna State Opera. Very, very nice

For what it's worth, when I was working with a rep on a booking, I mentioned 35% off requalification gift -- they are under impression it is going to be back but nothing's official.

Ah, rumors from the unknowing. To date, I don't believe Starwood has ever repeated a requalification gift, but nobody outside marketing knows.

I did my 35% off with the fifth night free at the St Regis Singapore. My SNA request failed (although it looked good until T-5) but I got a suite at checkin anyway as a repeat guest at the property.

Haha, it's definitely not a definitive confirmation that we'll see same requal. gifts as last year -- I took it more as confirmation _something_ is forthcoming.

Without having any data it's impossible to know whether 25/35% off points was a good or a bad thing for SPG's finances, but personally, I think it could be considered as a nice marketing expense because it probably got people to try more upscale properties which could result in repeat business (I will come back to the hotel I'd stayed in for sure).

Question SPG requalification gift 2014?

I requalified a month ago and haven't heard anything from SPG yet. Anyone else got a requal gift yet?

- i think free magazine subscription was repeated in the past. whether or not you consider it as a gift worth of mentioning is another story.

I remember having the 35% off (or maybe a different percentage) a single points redemption more than once, but I'm not sure the first one was an elite requalification gift versus another offer/promo.

Here's a list of previous (and sometimes targeted) Platinum re-qualification gifts from 2005 to 2013 (listed as re-qualifying year not benefits year; e.g. - you re-qualify for Platinum status in 2014 for benefits through 2015):

2013 (beginning March 26, 2013):
35% off single stay points redemption (Cat 1-6) -or- double points for a month
Starwood reserves the right to discontinue this offer at any time.

2012 (beginning on renewal in 2012; at least by July 18, 2012):
$25 award -or- 6-month Hulu Plus subscription
SPG Member must register for this offer online only within 30 days after the email is delivered.

2011 (beginning April 3, 2012):
$25 award -or- Free magazine subscription (US only) -or- 1000 points (int'l only)
Member must redeem this offer online only, within 30 days after the email is delivered.

2010 (beginning May 13, 2011):
$25 award -or- Free magazine subscription (US only) -or- 1000 points (int'l only); also year-end gift of SPG book
Member must redeem this offer online only, within 30 days after the email is delivered.

2009 (beginning April 28, 2010):
$25 award -or- Free magazine subscription (US only) -or- 1000 points (int'l only)
Member must redeem this offer online only, within 30 days after the email is delivered.

2008-B (beginning February 9, 2009):
$75 award -or- Free weekend night (Cat 1-5)
You have until April 30, 2009, at midnight EST to select your gift.

2008-A (beginning March 25, 2008):
Free magazine subscription
Simply select your one-year magazine subscription anytime within the next 30 days

2007 (beginning February 4, 2008):
50% off single stay points redemption (Cat 1-5); also year-end gift of SPG luggage tags
Award must be issued by 11:59 p.m. EST on March 3, 2008, for a stay completed by May 31, 2008.

2006 (targeted; beginning December 13, 2006):
50% off single stay points redemption (Cat 1-4)
Book by February 28, 2007, and stay by May 31, 2007.

2005-B (targeted; beginning February 4, 2006):
50% off single stay points redemption (Cat 1-4)
Book by March 17th for stays through June 30.

2005-A (beginning May 9, 2005):
Free magazine subscription (US only)
Member must redeem this offer online only, within 30 days after the email is delivered.

Other additional gifts include Zagat subscriptions (2002/2003), Zagat books (2002/2003, 2006), Best of Starwood photobook (2003), a Clear membership (2008), and possibly a few others that I may have missed. The topics of qualifying year, benefits year, gift year, etc. have been quite confusing. Starwood appears to have started issuing re-qualification gifts during the same year they were earned as of 2012, so that change further adds to the confusion. Most threads are labeled in the year they were issued rather than the year they were intended for (typically the qualifying year not the benefits year). Also, there was not an FT thread about the 2012 gift, oddly enough, so I am going by what I personally received in my email (and I'm not sure if international members were offered the Hulu Plus trial or points).

When did we get one in 2013? I don't remember getting anything. Now that makes me angry. They should just go back to the old gift- getting half off points for a stay anywhere. I'd stay at Starwood even more often knowing THAT was coming so I could go back to Europe on points. Those were the days!
