It can take up to 7 business days from the day you qualified for your Lifetime Platinum status to be picked up by the system.

Starwood / Marriott merger
Q : What will happen to my Lifetime Status when the programs merge together in the future?
A : Rest assured we will always recognize your Lifetime Status, whether it is today in your earned program or in the future with a new, combined program.

I'm at close to 700 nights, so I've already hit Gold. Issue is that the nights were over a 7 year period, which means I need another 3 for the lifetime Platinum.

I estimate I will have about 10-12 leisure stays annually going forward, and I can get a few more through the SPG AMEX. Is it worth to add around 10-15 stays per year as a mattress run to hit Platinum? This leaves me at 10 stays/year ( at $100/night) over 3 years. Total estimate out of the pocket cost is approximately $3,000 to achieve this status.

I'm somewhat on the fence on this one, however I do appreciate feedback from the community.

Did you include point-redemption stays in your figure of ~$3K?

Yes, worth it based on your travel pattern.

If you value a better room or suite, club access, internet access, more points or free breakfast at even a minimal $50 value per stay over gold, you will recoup at least $600/yr in benefits (12 stays per year) meaning your ROI comes through in 5 years (longer if you want to amortize interest on your $3k). On most of my multi night leisure stays the plat benefits are worth hundreds of dollars per stay to me.

I'm so glad you discussed amortizing that interest on $3K!

At today's interest rates, that amortization will dramatically alter the ROI....

Thanks for the replies. I am leaning towards making the mattress run to his the lifetime status. Free breakfast/lounge access/suite upgrades is something I value highly.

Starting next week, I'll lose my Plat status for the first time since 2006, and I already miss it.

SW Lurker's I believe that a strong argument can be made to count these PLT years from the double night status promotion towards LT status, particularly since AMEX nights are being counted.

Do you think you could champion this cause for us ? I'm not asking for the nights to be counted just the PLT years. How about it ?

Thanks for the question. This was posed and passed along already as a wish-list item when Lifetime Gold and Platinum were first introduced. If SPG is of a mind to do so, then I am sure they will take another look.

Since Lurkers are passing on wish lists, now that I am LTP, I would like SPG to make it incredibly difficult for anyone else to qualify. Thank you.

Cheers,

I'll echo that sentiment. Time to crank up the requirements. With grandfathering, of course.

Two more years and then I'm with you...

Was at the Walt Disney Dolphin last week. Chatting with the guy at check-in about how my Plat card looks more like a gold card than a Plat one ... since the background colour is yellow/gold. He told me not to worry - was clearly Plat to him.

Then...he went on to talk about how the LP card is worth seeing. Talked about how he's in awe whenever he sees it.

Is it that cool?

Then thought to myself: two more years...

Yeah, the card is cool. But I feel silly carrying it never mind showing it since we all know the number is already in the system

Heading to the Swolphin in a few months; will be sure to bring my big clunker to show off!

Cheers,

The card is cool, but mine went right into storage with my pile of "normal" cards. I've never carried around/had a need for my normal card, and I would feel like a DYKWIA.

I don't have mine with me (like CPRich, I never carry it, because I never need it). But Google is your friend:
