Starwood (and every other loyalty program) has their own algorithms for targeting. They never have, and it's pretty much guaranteed that they never will, reveal those.

as I tried to show Up thread it all depends on the Cat you will be stayinf at and for how long.

lets take a Cat5 highest to use the 25% off with, already if you book 4 nights the 5th is free which is sort of like 20% off so the extra 5% isnt much to crow over.

Obviously on a lower cat Hotel and shorter period of a stay yur overall savings will be less. Im sure the # crunchers went thru all of this before putting the Promo out

Wow! I also got the 1 stay required promo. I'm Gold and my last stay was in December.

-3,000 points
-$50
-25% Offf Award

I chose the 25% off award as I have an upcoming award stay that I can use it to save 13,750 points

OK, you've stumped me. I can't figure out how to get an award that's 55,000 points.

Someone told me I can "upgrade" to a non-standard room for an extra 1,000 per night . So 10k per night at a Cat 4 + 1,000 per night extra.

Only problem is the T&Cs says that it doesnt Include Upgrades. So the unkown is if they will KO the whole thing , or allow you to book it with 25% off (not worth it) and then use your pts to Upgrade or if it means just what it says No Upgrades = under any circumstance.

Now a Cat4 is 10k a night x 5 nights = 50k x 25% - = 37500, w/o the 25% off it would have been 40k - 4k if you chose that = 36k or 1500 less pts ( under book 4 get the 5th free). So in yur case you would have been better off taking the 4k and not the 25% off.

I got the 5 stays = 4,000 points. yawn. At least I am already 3 stays down in July towards the 5, with 2 more coming.

I am a platinum member with only 2 more stays to re qualify. I have been platinum ever since I have started with staying with starwood about 3 years ago.

I did forget about the 5th night free when I signed up. Might have to use it for a 3 or 4 night stay instead.

Thanks. But not a very compelling offer.

My offer requires 5 stays for 4,000 points.

Nice, but not exciting.

Meanwhile, Hyatt this year has been very good to me, and since April, I've logged 14 stays with them which has yielded 7 Big Welcome Back bonus stays, plus a free "welcome back" stay ("we haven't seen you at Hyatt in a while"), plus various Gold Passport and AA bonus points, plus 14/15 of the way to Diamond Status (fast track) through 2/12.

We just used my 8 free Hyatt stays at the Park Hyatt in Zurich, Milan and Paris--and I must stay that Diamond treatment there was consistently excellent! All this without touching my accumulated GP points.

Now that's what I call a good promotion! ^

The purpose of the promo is to increase business not necessarily reward existing business.

I got the 1 stay promo. I haven't made a stay since December so Starwood probably sees its unlikely I would make 5 stays for the promo and 1 is better than nothing. At the same time its a good chance a Plat already has at least 1 stay booked but they want to drive additional booking out of them.

Just my opinion.

Ditto - Plat member with only two nights to go to re-qualify. This promo seems to be about getting members who don't stay often to make more returns to the *Wood brand. As much as I'm a bit disappointed for myself, I understand *Wood's motivation.

it's the "between now and" that I'm interested in.
that states clearly that stays prior to NOW don't count.

Question for Lurkers

I completed a stay that started June 28 and ended July 2 - does this stay count towards the 5 required?

Only if I employ a wizard or Paul to assist me.
