CAN-DXB(CZ)-NBO(KQ)-CUR(KL via AMS)-PTY-CAN(DL via ATL/LAX) = 25766miles
The minimum package is 26,000? I wonder if they'd let me go, or I could just add another stop?

That means up to 26k miles, i.e. if you had 26001 miles you'd have to buy up to the 29k RTW etc. In other words: you're OK.

3. Similar to above I have listed I am arriving in CUR but departing from PTY, is that allowed?

Yes, but bear in mind that the mileage for such "surface sectors" is included in your total allowance.

Thanks for your help. Who should I contact to book this ticket? I am with Flying Blue so could AF help me book the whole itenerary or does it have to be CZ since the first segment is with them? How early do you think I should book it?

stimpy May 6, 2010 2:09 am

Yes you can book with AF. The longer you wait, the less the chance you will find availability. RTW tickets are very limited on each flight, especially in F and C.

I wonder to what locations it may be worth traveling to start a RTW journey.

The reason I ask is because I just helped a friend get a cheaper RTW ticket by having him start the journey at a different location (I arranged matters ahead of him getting to city of departure: buying ticket, etc).

What level of saving would you think is worth to make you travel to another country to start from there? 20%, 30%,?

I am going to make a similar post in the other two alliances' forums. Hope that does not breach forum etiquette.

Well I would say it's a very personal issue and depends on the scale that each individual person values convenience vs. savings, right?

Think of a parallel example: I have the choice between flying a "regular" airline and Ryanair between 2 cities: the regular airline is more expensive but personally I am willing to pay more not to suffer the inconvenience caused by flying Ryanair. But how much more? The more this gap widens, the more I would start reconsidering my decision. The width of the acceptable gap is different for each person, right?

If anybody is wondering about the RTW Skyteam fares theses days- I tried googling around but it pulls up all very old information, and the fares have apparently gone up a lot.
I called the DL Diamond desk today, who transferred me to the RTW revenue (as opposed to RTW mileage ticket) desk. The base fares now are:
Up to 29,000 miles (which is the lowest one she could book from the USA), $4,569 coach, $8,800 business, for originating in USA. I'm looking for business class, and I didn't have much luck having her try it from historically cheaper airports in Asia. She said that she could only price it from USA airports. Does anyone know where I can get a current rate from other airports (like from a travel agency that does a lot of RTWs)? I travel to Asia 1-3 times per year, and it's not much farther to come back through Europe so really the "starting" airport is of little importance to me.

The 26K (xRTWSKY4) option seems to only exist for Y fares:

KVS - thanks. I see that BKK is a lot more expensive than it used to be as well.
I registered now for the trial of Diamond and will try some more airports. MNL, TYO, TPE, CMB have been the ones that I have seem low C fares before on. Anypne now any others to try?

ICN used to have incredibly cheap ones (I picked one up last year in biz for $5200, all inclusive!!) but now they're just as expensive there as everywhere else :(

In fact, it looks like India is the cheapest one I can find now (!) which is pretty good for me, cause I've got a couple of uncles over there. (I've added AA/AC tickets in there just for comparison)

RTW with miles

Does delta offer any around the world fares where you can use miles.

I remember NW used to have this before they merged.

**and does skyteam offer any sort of online tool to see how much a trip would cost, similar to what staralliance has (http://www.staralliance.com/en/booking/book-and-fly/#)

Thanks

Unfortunately the ST site doesn't have an online tool like OW or *A.

So to celebrate 10 years of SkyTeam they're offering "5 to 30% off, depending on the country of commencement".

http://www.skyteam.com/about/products/index.html

Does anyone know of a way to find out what discount applies to which country? 30% would be worth investigating, 5% less so.
