Could anyone clarify whether it is possible to make stopover in the country/airport of origin? (I know up to 2 transfers are allowed in country of origin).

How can you have a stopover in your city of origin? (Assuming the last 4 words apply to your itinerary, not your ethnicity/nationality!) :confused:

I can imagine your route (say ex AMS): AMS -- (2 night layover) -- AMS -- JFK -- LAX --- NRT --- etc, etc.

Stopover applies to underlined destinations. Anything wrong with the above itinerary, considering I am doing a stopover in my city of origin (AMS)?

I don't think that is legal. You can't arrive back in Amsterdam with a stop then head backwards. But of course you can call up KL and give it a try.

I got the answer and it is possible to make one connection of up to 24h in the airport of origin. A stopover of more than 24h is not allowed in the airport of origion.

Right. That is technically a transit rather than a stopover. What you are doing is flying LAX-LED via AMS. That is legal, as you noted, as long as the transit happens within 24 hours. You could also do LAX-LED via CDG.

Could anyone clarify whether maximum number of miles needs to be adhered to or is rather flexible? If I have total of 29,211 miles this means I would need to pay the RTW fare for 34,000?

Unfortunately it is not flexible, but for a small difference, you can have an exception, but it is not written.

I'm considering LAX-EZE-CPT-BOM-SIN-SYD-PPT-LAX but I don't know much about the routes, carriers or planes. Any advice regarding specific routes, airlines, or planes?

Any cool destinations that would ordinarily be too expensive to pay for? I'd like to knock out some of the destinations that would generally be too expensive eg PPT.

Any input from the pros is much appreciated!

If you fly with Skyteam, your routing would probably be

LAX-[ATL]-EZE-[AMS]-CPT-[JNB]-[NBO]-BOM-SGN-SIN-[SGN (or CAN or ICN)]-SYD-[NOU]-PPT-LAX.

Places in []-brackets would be places where you change planes, places in ()-brackets are alternatives to the airport mentioned right before. The trip from CPT to JNB is, as far as I know, not possible with Skyteam, so you would have to do this trip with a different airline, maybe some low-cost carrier?

In general: I recommend that you go to the websites of the three airline alliances and look up your trip on their timetables. Alternatively, go to a travel agency.

I apologize if my questions have already been covered but I am just looking for some quick advice on a RTW I am tentavely planning, routing as follows:

CAN-DXB(CZ)-NBO(KQ)-CUR(KL via AMS)-PTY-CAN(DL via ATL/LAX) = 25766miles
The minimum package is 26,000? I wonder if they'd let me go, or I could just add another stop?

1. I have listed that I will be departing from NBO to CUR but that may not be the case as I am may be planning intra-Africa travel to DAR, HRE, LOS etc. Would I be able to depart from a different African city onwards to CUR? I just figured I would by cheap one-way tickets for intra-Africa travel if I wasnt able to find good routings with KQ.
2. But if I did find a decent routing with KQ, is there a limit to how many stops I can make in one continent?
3. Similar to above I have listed I am arriving in CUR but departing from PTY, is that allowed? I may also visit 1-2 South American cities but no idea which ones thats why for now all I have listed is PTY because I know for sure that would be a stop. I thought if I did need to, I would depart from CUR and work my way down and back up to PTY through a series of one-ways similar to the intra-Africa I am planning. No ST coverage in South America for intra travel that I am aware of...

Anyways this is just me thinking out loud and wanted to know what anyone thought.
