I took the additional insurance after researching on the internet that the insurance covered by the car hire company is not comprehensive enough even though they say it is full insurance. I am not quite sure if the policy means it will cover up to 2,000 or I have have to pay up to 2,000. I will have to wait until the insurance company reverts I guess.

I rented the CPMR Audi 3 Classe car from Sixt Munich City branch. When I booked online it says the a LDW of EUR 850 covered in the agreement. I told the lady I did not require any additional insurance as I had read the LDW was covered but when I looked at the slip of paper which is the agreement I saw it says I have decline CDW and TP which I had not only any additional insurance. However as I not familiar with the terms does this mean I had signed away this?

I was travelling through a tunnel when I felt a violent shudder. I managed to drive to the emergency lane and saw two tyres had blown and some damage to the wheel rim. They have sent a report in German and photos. The invoice is very basic with just the amounts to pay.

I called the emergency phone from the roadside and they sent the breakdown truck. As my phone didn't work, the breakdown man helped call Sixt and they told him to take the car to Audi in a nearby town (as it was a Sat it was closed and left in the parking lot). When I got to the hotel I spoke to Sixt and told them the car was at Audi. Again I told them when I handed the keys and sat nav back in Munich and told them to check with their accident hotline. However they sent me a email 3 days later asking me where the car was. I was most surprised that they didn't keep a log from the time of the call by the breakdown man.

If the slip says you declined CDW then you are (sorry to say this) screwed and have to cough up the money. ALWAYS TRIPLE CHECK THIS!!! Especially if you rent from Sixt.
I have had this happen to me at Frankfurt once also. I reserved full coverage for the car, but when I was handled over the slip it said no CDW!

Sixt has real nice brand new cars, but their customer service is pretty bad compare to American car rental COs, so be AWARE (this especially goes to those who are from the US, since you are not used to this)!

Also undercarriage, tire and windshiled damages differ from country to country. These are not covered in for eg in the US and UK and have to take another insurance for it, while in Germany (last time) it is covered by CDW.

Yes, the GDW (Glass Damage Waiver) can be added at the MCO Branch. This is relatively new at this location and it is not currently bookable as an option on the Internet. Here are the current Terms and Conditions regarding the GDW:

Glass Damage Waiver (GDW)

Glass Damage Waiver waives your responsibility in the event of damages to the windshield, side windows, rear-window or mirror glass.
The cost of GDW is $14.99/rental (plus local tax).
If GDW is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full value of damages to the windshield, side windows, rear-window or mirror glass.
If GDW is accepted, the customer is only responsible for the following amount: $ 0.00.
(Glass Damage Waiver = GT)

Gary,

Just got back from MCO and they do not have GDW at all:) The contract and Terms and condition they handle out on site does not contain this information at all!! They do not mention GDW at all! When I asked for GDW they gave me Roadside Assistance:)
Just to let you know!

Wht if ur rental is prepaid with LDW included & yet when they print out the agreement it said it's excluded (even tho u've already paid for it)?

Looking to rent from Frankfurt in a few mths time. Currently wht's in SSMR & are automatics available?

macdonaldj2 May 7, 2013 10:39 am

I've rented a LWAR at FRA and returning to HAM, I see that only 525/530d are available but saw that possibly a 535d might be floating around as well? Also we are PLAT but have never rented so I don't expect any type of upgrade, but on the slim chance what are we looking at in regards to that?

highlanderfil May 7, 2013 12:39 pm

Looking to rent something like a VW GTI in Netherlands and drop off in Germany in late June/early July. Does Sixt have a program similar to Hertz where a car needs to get back to its country of origin and will not incur a one-way fee. If so, please let me know!

sixtisbest May 7, 2013 2:49 pm

SSMR will be most likely scirocco with smaller engines. more without automatic

535d exist in LWAR. there cannot be an upgrade to LWAR, because XWAR does not exist. however the SUV class XFAR may be a possibility

Sixt doesnt have a transfer desk. you would have to ask the station individually if they have a german car which needs to be returned.

Hi senna60_94,

We always advise for you to check the rental contract before driving away in the vehicle to make sure all is as requested. Hope this helps, Matt

Hi,

I was pleased with my rental epxerience, so I have nothing to complain about. I am just saying that at the final Termy&Condition that they handled out at MCO has no GDW mentioned in it at all, while the online terms&condidion has.

Just applied for an express card. Few questions...
How long might it take? Could I get it expedited?
Can I add a reservation I already made to the express account?
If I use the card at time of check in/pick up, is there a machine I go to or a desk?

A few weeks maybe, not ages. Not sure about speeding it up.

If you're picking up from an airport in Germany, then there's a decent chance you can use the self-service machine. Although if this is your first rental with Sixt, probably not.
