The Kung Pao chicken was pretty decent. My pastrami sandwich this week was beef through and through, although the FA had offered it to me as turkey. Good thing that although I prefer to avoid beef I'm not literally religious about it and that I can somewhat tell the difference in taste. Could have caused a significant problem!

I took my first P.S. flight Saturday evening in C, UA15 JFK-SFO. Dinner was served:

featured cocktails

Pomegranate Sparkler
Absolut Citron vodka with delicious Rubicon Pomegranate juice mix, stirred and topped with Domaine Chandon Brut NV Champagne. Completely rich and refreshing.

to begin

Sweet Crab Salad on Fresh Bok Choy
Organic yuzu-miso vinaigrette

salad

Fresh Seasonal Greens
Classic Caesar or balsamic Dijon vinaigrette

main course

Grilled Shrimp with Organic Ginger-Soy-Hijiki Sauce
Cellophane noodles and shitake mushrooms

Pan-seared Tenderloin with Horseradish Sauce
Milanese saffron risotto and stir-fried vegetables

Boursin Lasagna with Alfredo and Marinara Sauce

dessert

Ice Cream

Fresh Seasonal Fruit Plate

prior to arrival

A selection of extraordinary chocolate truffles from Gayety's Chocolates

Overall I was very happy with the food. I'm not normally a business class flyer though so I am probably easily impressed. The crab salad had a generous amount of crab and was tasty. I chose the beef tenderloin and it was quite good -- juicy and not overcooked. I didn't see any horseradish sauce though. I also enjoyed the risotto that came with it.

I also had one of the featured cocktails and thought it was pretty good.

In general, a very pleasant flight. It was also special for me because this was my first mileage run. A good experience!

Same as Kurt's menu except

Mongolian chicken with spicy kung pao sauce
Stir-fried egg noodles and Chinese broccoli with mushroom

replaced the Japanese meal

and the snack basket had Baked Lay's and granola bars as well.

Also, the pastrami was a turkey and cheese sarnie, no taters.

==========

My first choice, (omelet) was already gone so I had the pancakes. I was actually happy to find that they had no "fruit" filling.

Next I had the pasta salad which was tastier than i had expected. ^

I hadn't really read the menu description carefully so I was pleasantly surprised to see the (1) fresh mozzarella ball and only wished it had enough time to warm up a bit.

Question: Were ps Biz class menus always printed in black & white? For some reason, i thought they had been printed w/a color illustration?

Am i mistaken about the color or is this just a recent cost-cutting measure?

LAX - JFK ps (Lunch or maybe Dinner?) 6/10

fyi, it was a 4:20 PM flight and I'm not sure what type meal is served at that time

Pomegranate Sparkler

To Begin

Citrus-Cured Smoked Salmon

Carmelized fennel citrus salad w/orange yuzu-miso vinegrette

Salad

Fresh Seasonal Greens

Bleu cheese or roasted garlic red wine vinigrette

Main Courses

Herb Roasted Chicken w/ Tomato Olive Ragout

Braised Tuscan white beans w/thyme and steamed asparagus

Seared Sea Scallops w/ Orange Ginger-Soy-Hijiki Sauce and Freash Soy Beans

Poached tofu and shitake mushrooms

Cheese Tortellacci w/ Alfredo and Tomato Sauce

Dessert

Ice Cream

Fresh Seasonal Fruit Plate

Prior to Arrival

Selection of Extraordinary Chocolate Truffles from Gayety's Chocolates

wines listed upon request

==============
The appetizer had 2 decent sized slices of smoked salmon.

I had the chicken which was moist but generally flavorless and a could have been a bit hotter. The "ragout" seemed more like a watery ketchup. No olive taste or bits were detected. The asparagus tasted better than they appeared and the white beans were pretty good.

The ice cream was 2 scoops (1 of vanilla, 1 strawberry). No toppings were offered.

I was asleep and missed the chocolate service.

This was the 4th ps flight I've taken in the past 2 months and I have to say I preferred the food choices they were serving earlier in the year.

What special meal do you request to get this? I've got low fat selected right now, but I'm getting rather tired of seeing the same thing over and over. This sounds a lot better.

No they used to have a color-print front. I think little things go a long way, and this "enhancement" is annoying. I mean a few more cents per menu? Ok I get that it adds up, but is it really that substantial? I guess you need to look under every rock when oil prices are threating the very existance of your airline though

The appetizer was okay, had "2 decent sized slices of smoked salmon" as a previous poster noted

I had the chicken which was decent, ricotta cheese was good but the whole dish was kinda lukewarm, either that or I just took too long to eat my salad.

The ice cream was 2 scoops (1 of vanilla, 1 strawberry), the FA offered to top it with Bailey's or Amaretto, I went with the Bailey's. ^

Those Gayety's dark chocolates are delicious, my favorite was the raspberry dark...if they have that one when they get to your row, grab it unless I'm on your flight, in which case I want it for me.
