Choice between spinach and feta omelette and fruit plate. I went with the omelette, which was VERY good.

Simply put BEST CREW EVER, although more details to follow in the trip report.

I was sitting next to lucky and had pre-ordered the Low-Fat (LFML) breakfast, which was the french toast, fruit plate, whole wheat bagel and low-fat cream cheese that seems to be the standard offering.

The crew on this flight was superb. ^

Pre-flight beverage service of OJ or water. Post take-off, initial beverage service, followed by hot towels. Then, breakfast. After breakfast, numerous drink passes through the cabin, but to top everything off, about an hour before landing, warmed nuts, in the ramekins, were served! It seems that there was a catering mistake and the nuts were delivered to the flight in error (breakfast flight). the crew decided to serve them anyhow. A little extra work, perhaps, but still a nice "going the extra mile" effort. ^

Transcon IVML

Flight - UA 947 (IAD-LAX)
Date - January 20, 2008
Equipment - B777-200

Pre-Departure OJ or water. After take-off, hot towel service; mine was sopping wet! Beverage service with warmed nuts were served. There appeared to be three entrees loaded for this flight, beef short ribs, chicken curry, and cheese tortellini. As we were later to discover, the childrens' meal of chicken tenders was also boarded.

I ordered the Indian Vegetarian Meal (IVML), as is my custom for lunch and dinner flights. This evening's offer was a small salad with tomato wedges with an asian sesame dressing, and a main course of vegetable curry, a similar dish with chickpeas and cauliflower, palak paneer, plain yoghurt, and naan bread. A small container of spicy chutney was a condiment and the desert was gulab jamun. I found this to be a nice upgrade from last year's version of this meal.

Here's a photo I took of the meal, using Lucky's camera.

My mom was sitting next to me and said the chicken curry was delicious. I'll let the other FTers who were on this flight describe their meals, if they like.

Please see Lucky's excellent trip report for additional details about this flight.

IAD-DEN Dinner

After flying MUC-IAD on the same aircraft in Y the C seat seemed spacious. C was full.

Flight/Route: UA903/IAD-DEN
Aircraft/Tail No./Seat: 777-200/N769UA/15H
Departure Time/Duration: 5:30 p.m./3:51
Meal: Dinner

Meal orders were taken by status while at the gate. After takeoff the drink cart rolled around and we were served hot nuts (seconds offered), plus a Dewar's for me (a second, unopened mini bottle was offered) with water on the side. Service was quite slow (I was in the last row of C) and it took 1:45 before the main course arrived.

Cheese Pasta
Cheese tortellini topped with marinara sauce, served with a small ramekin of Parmesean cheese, a wheat roll/butter and a small slice of key lime pie. Or maybe it was key lime cheesecake. It was fluffy and tasted like limes so that's my best guess. The tray liner was the abstract "UA tulip" pattern.

Although tasty and filling enough, this was not a very impressive meal: the pasta was somewhat dried out and not very hot. And is a salad that extravagant on a 4-hour flight?

or

Turkey Ciabatta
This was the more popular entree but did not look all that great either. More potato cubes and the same key lime slice came with the sandwich.

Although slow, the crew was friendly and drink and wine refills kept coming until we began our descent into Colorado. About 20 minutes before landing a flight attendant reached into her bag right under my seat and offered me a Mars bar, a sweet gesture.

Your choice of yogurt and breakfast breads served with:

Swiss cheese omelette with tomato garlic sauce Sauteed potatoes and grilled veal sausage

Pancakes with braised pears and apples Pure maple syrup and butter

Chilled deli plate with Gruyere cheese, smoked salmon, honey ham, salami, asparagus and egg wedge

----
I had the pancakes just because it was nice to have a breakfast choice of something other than an omelette for a change (and we had 3 choices!). The pancakes were good. Not the best thing ever, but they were not eggs, and that was the point. I didn't see anyone order the deli plate.

Prior to Arrival

Smoked salmon with roasted yellow pepper and kalamata olives Arugula creme fraiche

Fresh seasonal greens Peppercorn or balsamic vinaigrette

-----

I was stunned to be served a full plated salad. It was reversed from what I'm used to - the appetizer was on the smaller plate and the salad was on a full-size plate. The fresh seasonal greens were very good.

-----

main course

Pan-seared filet mignon with Madeira cafe de Paris sauce Macedonian potatoes and sauteed spinach with garlic

Filet of cod with zucchini thyme sauce - curried vegetable couscous with pine nuts and asparagus, carrot and red pepper saute

Porcini stuffed panserotti with creamy herb sauce Mixed vegetable ratatouille

dessert

International cheese selection Bonifaz, Rahmberg

Ice cream

---

I had the cod. It was fine. The filet looked good as well. The meal was served with warm mixed nuts and seconds were offered.

This was the first time I can remember having two full 3-option meals served on any UA flight. It was plenty of food and the service was excellent.
