However, when your stays post, the first one that comes through will post as qualifying (I assume you are paying a qualifying rate), while the stay that posts second will post as overlapping and may not earn the points as you expect. YMMV

My experience when booking several rooms at the SAME hotel has been that the other activities will post as overlapping stays, without additional nights but with the additional points.

That's at the same hotel, but OP is staying at different hotels. It can be hit and miss in such case, at least in the past. Sometimes they post as overlapping and you get points for both, but I had cases where the second one posted as non-qualifying initially with no points and later had to be corrected manually.

Also, depending on hotel, not always do the stays post in the right timely sequence and an overlapping stay would not count for promos or so. So say your 1 nighter somehow posts before a 5 nighter (for example); you may have the promo counter for the 1 nighter and not the 5 nighter etc. It can be a headache, just beware.

IMO if you have overlapping stays, make them at different chains.

Hi guys

got a query for status and room upgrades

as the ihg status and ambassador membership is confusing me

If i stack platinum + ambassador at intercontinental hotels, I will be getting one level guaranteed upgrade.

If i am a platinum without ambassador, upgrade is only when available upon check in?

If i am a Diamond without ambassador, upgrade is also only upon check in (but higher chance than a platinum)?

What about diamond ambassador, is it still a one level upgrade like plat ambassador?

The IHG T&C's are very vague about status upgrades. They are subject to availability even for diamond, but beyond that it is up to the hotel - they could be anything from the same room in a higher floor ot a one bedroom suite (as a diamond I've had both). Sometimes the upgrade shows up in the app a few days in advance, but often you only find out upon check in or even when you enter your room.

Wait, so with the milestone bonuses is there any point to having diamond status?
The 2 biggest benefits are attainable with 40 nights: breakfast and then lounge access.

Breakfast is indeed a status benefit and not a milestone bonus choice.

Oh yeah, got confused, cause I'm doing the match and need to get to 20 nights.

Ok, so if you can get lounge access at 40 then it is a moot point (cause they have breakfast in the lounge).
Like Glob-lite?

In fact only a small percentage of IHG hotels have club lounges.

What benefits would one get as a diamond at a Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express? Or anay of the other myriad non-full service hotels?
Only value would be potebtially at an Indigo, of which there are very few.

I've been to an awful lot of HI's around the world and they do offer breakfast at a price. In some places breakfast can be rather expensive. HIX's and Staybridge Suites of course have free breakfast. Diamond breakfast is useful also at CP's, IC's and Kimpton. I think at Voco too. Maybe also at Six Senses and Mr. & Mrs. Smith?

As posted above, main difference between HI and HIX (in North America at least) is HI have a restaurant so you would get free breakfast there as Diamond which is decent benefit.

Some HI and HIX have suites or bigger rooms so I usually get upgraded to those when available.

Indeed, although I used to get those suite upgrades back in the days of Spire and Platinum before that.

Recently I got a large ocean front suite upgrade at an HIX in Virginia Beach on points. In August when the hotel was full.
