Nightmare - 100k UR pts redeemed for cash rather than Combined with another UR acct.

Hi folks,

My mother was attempting to transfer 100,000 from her Chase UR account to mine. However the private banker REDEEMED them for $1,000 instead.

Can anyone advise on what I can do to reverse this or what compensation I should be asking for?

The PB is very sorry and "looking into what can be done" however any further guidance would be helpful.

Thank You!

Was she at the branch when this happened? How did she take the $1000?

Go back to Chase. I don't have experience with a private banker account, but they're the only ones who could restore the points. Luckily they weren't transferred to a third party like an airline which would have made it more complicated.

Nightmare Scenario - 100,000 UR point transfer gone wrong!

Hi folks,

My private banker was instructed to transfer UR points over to another family member in the same household, however REDEEMED them for cash value instead.

After about 2-3 weeks of communication they are telling me they can not award my points back, and those points were being used to book a business class ticket from NYC to Bangkok.

Can anyone advise on what I can further do? The private banker has admitted wrongdoing and is deeply apologetic however I am having to come out of pocket much more now, considering that I am flying over an elderly family member which will need to lay down for medical reasons.

This has been a harrowing process and would appreciate any help!

If the private banker works for Chase (assuming you don't mean some money manager who works for you), that should be the end of it. One of their employees admitted he made a mistake. They need to figure out a way to fix it. It's that simple.

Yes indeed they do work for chase and have come back saying "nothing can be done"

Any thoughts on how can i further escalate? Should i email the executive line (If there is one) or reach out to the regional manager?

Thanks!

I suppose you could always threaten to move all of your assets out of Chase but if you aren't willing to actually do that then the bluff gets called pretty quickly. Might be a way to get things escalated though.

I wouldn't even try to bluff and will just do it. How can you trust the bank or banker if they did something wrong, admitted it and wouldn't correct the mistake? Oops, we accidentally transfer all your money to an unknown foreign bank account and we can't get them back so sorry.

I would first call their corporate office (I think the number is on this forum somewhere). I would tell whomever answer frankly that this is unacceptable, that they certainly "can" do something, that they're just not willing to. Threaten to file a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the CFPB if the executive doesn't back down.

Alternatively, call your private banker and tell him that he needs to escalate with his superiors. It's not your responsibility.

I have merged in JBG89's original report from August (see beginning of thread), and given the thread a more descriptive title.
