Breakfast room isn't big enough for the number of guests who need to use it.
The service offered in the lobby is very good but the lobby itself, whilst very nice, is nothing particularly special IMO. The Intercontinental Hong Kong might be a contender for that for me.

Thanks for the tip about the IC HKG. We just recently stayed at the RC HKG in a club harbor room, and previously stayed at the RC SIN in a club marina room and both experiences were wonderful. It's just that I noticed this thread and when we were last at the Valley Wing though it was the largest "club" experience in the world.

It depends on what your definition is of top dollar. The rates at the RC, MO, Shangri-La are cheap compared to a lot of European "luxury" hotels. And the club rooms in all three offer fantastic value for money, the RC offering the best value I think.

I agree the breakfast room is not big enough. I love though that you can sit outside or in the lobby which is all still part of the club experience.

I've never classed the Valley Wing as a Club experience, it tends to market itself as a separate VIP wing (and seems to get a lot of world leaders staying there). This is a concept that Shangri la have adopted at a number of properties - Bangkok, Batu Ferrenghi (Penang), Beijing (China World), and Oman - there are probably others

this type of property is better overall though > http://southernoceanlodge.com.au/lodge/ >
include all dining, open bar with premium wines and spirits...signature experiences and island airport transfers
this would have been comparable although different style but hotel has new owner/manager >
https://web.archive.org/web/20110721...programme.html
Open bar, until 6:30pm
singapore >
not seeing anything complimentary for garden wing on website (except internet)
all JamesEaston is taking about is valley wing's club benefits (complimentary alcohol) in unique setting.
elsewhere >
beijing - only in main hotel's lounge
oman - in al husn lobby like valley wing, but only during cocktail hour?
(only during cocktail hour is most common.)

They now have their own lounge and complimentary drinks for a couple of hours a day. When I last stayed in the Garden Wing a few years back (before they opened the new lounge and whilst the Valley Wing was closed for refurbishment) they offered me free access to the Horizon Club in the main wing without asking.
My point re the other hotels was regarding the large separate club like experience as opposed to, or in addition, to club floors elsewhere in the hotel.
IIRC the Rasa Sayang used to have all day complimentary drinks when the hotel reopened - and the Krungthep Wing used to have complimentary minibars and breakfast as well as drinks in the Wing lounge - but yes, this seems to have changed now.
Although overall it is a superb hotel we were slightly disappointed with the service in the Valley Wing. We had a major service fail when we stayed at the Valley Wing - we came back late one evening to find they had left the door to our room open and ajar after doing the evening turn down service. Luckily nothing was taken and the hotel went overboard in trying to make amends - but it was a serious mistake that could have been a disaster. Our in-room check-in consisted of being taken to our room to find that it was still being made up, so we were checked in whilst the maid was making the bed and vacuuming the room - the hotel wasn't full so why we weren't taken to another room is beyond me. We also noticed a lack of consistency in the main lobby - we noticed a guest (who appeared to be well known to the staff) came in and ordered a burger and fries and munched them in the lobby - so the following day we thought we thought we'd do the same and was told it wasn't allowed. Some guests were allowed to help themselves to the bar (one guest had the Johnny Walker bottle on his table) whilst it was clear that this was not supposed to be the case - there were always plenty of butlers on hand to get you a drink if you needed one.

The Horizon Lounge in the main wing is large and you also used to have use of the best restaurant (Blu) in the hotel on the top floor (and balcony) for breakfast - think it might be just a bar at the moment. Not sure where the garden wing lounge is - I think it might be a function room that used to be on the ground floor near the pool.
The lounge in the Valley Wing is essentially the lobby of the Valley Wing.
Other than the breakfast room, small business centre and separate building / lobby / entrance, unlike some of the other hotels I listed earlier, there are no separate private leisure facilities - gym / pool. The hotel has a small 3 hole pitch and putt golf course - I've never seen anyone use this and wondered if the space could be used for an additional Valley Wing Pool. The main pool at the hotel is big but with three wings and condos (who do have a separate pool) it can get busy.
Re the food - IIRC they do serve some complimentary food in the evening but during the day we were told fried food such as burgers and fries were not possible - we weren't expecting it free we were prepared to pay so it narked us when we were told it wasn't possible despite someone doing exactly that the day before. We are realists and know if the King of Freedonia and his entourage are staying then rules will be broken and policies changed but that wasn't the case here.

If you are in Singapore, give yourself the experience of staying at Raffles. It is not perfect, but is a wonderful place if you have any appreciation for history and elegance. Possibly it doesn't have all the bells and whistlesolder bathrooms and TV sets in some rooms. Not sure on the TV sets, but I know they have redone some of the baths. Nonetheless, we stayed last year in my favorite suite (with an old bathroom) and it was still greatalthough I might make an inquiry with Reservations on the bathroom issue in the future. But the outside hallways in teak and marble are just magnificent and I always walk all around the hotel, just for the experience. The food is great -- love dim sum and free-flow lime juice in the Empire Cafe. Love sleeping under the fans in the high-ceilinged top-floor rooms. Really memorable in every way. Also, the pool is great, especially early in the morning or late at night when bats sometimes swoop by. So special. I have stayed at the Shangri-La and LOVE the pool there, but Raffles is such a special experience. And it is a fairly quick walk to Makansutra Glutton's Bay hawker center, which always is a good quick cheap meal. Raffles is one of a kind.
