Hmm. So is there a window here where I can still buy a premium-cabin UA seat NRT-BKK in summer 2014 and get reacommodated on another airline (or refunded for free)?

Horrible, horrible news.
They better be making some adjustments to the schedule. From what I recall, neither TG nor NH has an early morning (0600) flight BKK->NRT. Their existing ~8AM flights are going to make for tough connections.
No upgrades, no E+, no UA staff present to assist with Irrops, etc.

Well, a matter of opinion then. NRT-BKK is huge to me since BKK is a major destination for me. With the new MM devaluation and sky-high redemption on partners, and PQD nonsense, they've drastically changed options for travel to/from BKK. This is a big chunk of my international travel as I not only visit BKK but use it as a hub for other regional destinations, as I enjoy flying TG.
SEA-NRT sounds pretty big in my book, too.
And, didn't they downguage other routes?

p in the future. SEA-NRT will now require a stop. Other cities are gaining service.

Ah, so you know the profitability of these routes? Care to share this data? Can you please point to factual evidence for this claim? Or are you just hoping to compare SEA-NRT (ANA/Delta both run this route) and NRT-BKK to a ridiculous exaggeration?

You are missing the point. United is cutting routes that aren't making money is fine. However, they aren't making money on these routes because they are allowing the competition to own markets (SEA) where UA was once strong. SEA-NRT has been around longer than any other United international route - why did it go from being profitable over the long term to unprofitable?

Sorry but can someone help me understand the JV agreement with ANA.
If I book SFO-NRT-BKK now all on UA, do UA and ANA share all of the revenue or just the TransPac SFO-NRT revenue?
So in the future if I book SFO-NRT-BKK where NRT-BKK is on ANA does ANA share that revenue with UA?

SFO-CTU
SFO-CDG
ORD-EDI
IAD-MAD
IAH-NRT 2nd frequency
EWR-LHR all wide-body for the summer
IAH-MUC
There are plenty of places where international service is being added, too. Not all good nor all bad.

It is a shame we are losing BKK. They might want to update their advertising on TV (reference to flying to BKK).
