This is great. 30K for $85 is a no-brainer.

Yes, you will (I have an AA MC and got the 75k for the Visa)

This was my experience when I tried applying for the 75,000 bonus mile Citi Amex card. I have two other Citi cards (AA Plat World MC & a dividend card). I called and after customer service review, I was approved! I also confirmed that I will be getting the 75K miles even though I already have an Aadvantage MC which has been opened for about 4 or 5 years.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere already but CitiGold checking account holders have the annual fee waived.

That's potentially a big deal! Was that information provided by a CSR? Did you ask, or did s/he volunteer it?

When you applied online, did you do the "shortcut" (which pre-fills a bunch of information based on another card you have with Citi), or did you do it "from scratch"?

When I changed my checking account from regular checking over to CitiGold, the rep asked if I had any credit cards and told me that the annual fee will be waived as long as I maintain CitiGold.

I started from scratch. The same CSR who confirmed that I will be getting the 75K mile bonus also thanked me for being a loyal customer and for having two other Citi credit cards.

It does not matter because your SSN is on all your Citi accounts. If for anything, using Short Cut is better because you are a "Known" entity to Citi.

OP got his new card despite his existing AA card is because his AA card is opened 4 or 5 years ago.

From data points reported so far, the "look back" period for Citi to disqualify you based on New Customer Only, is anywhere between 9 to 18 months. Whether you fall into 9 or 18 is of course a highly YMMV. Suffice to say, if your AA cards were opened 18 months ago, you are NOT on the screening list for "New Customer Only" eligibility.

Advice Please

I used the Citi Visa link for the 75K bonus offer.
I have a Citi Gold M/C that I've had "forever" (since '91) with a rather high credit line (I never requested so high, they just kept upping it).
Had in the past churned a few cards but had stopped over 6 months ago.
Called afterwards to check on status and got told to wait 24-48hr for "review" (not a good sign I know). I ask if I should reduce my present line of credit on the Gold card to make some $ available and they said it shouldn't matter and if it did someone will contact me.

Last night at 11PM I get an e-mail with the rejection which stated that I have the maximum credit allowed for an individual according the the experion credit report-- though didn't say that I had (A) too many cards, (B) hadn't waited long enough between applications etc.
In addition to my Citi Gold Card I have a Chase BA card with a 22.5K line
Should I call to "push it"? I'm more than willing to reduce the line on the gold card. If that doesn't work I wonder how long I'd need to wait before trying again. The 75K bonus is too tempting to let to. I will probably reduce the line on the Chase card since I really don't (A) need that much credit and (b) possibly cancel the card when the annual fee kicks in again.
Thanks

Others have had success when they called because of "too much credit".

I stopped churning a while ago but like you, felt the 75K bonus was too good to pass up. I would be careful about reducing your credit line unless you are sure that Citi will approve you. Doing so will negatively impact your crecit score.

Thanks for both replies.
If I did reduce any lines it would be the Chase BA card which I've only had since December so I doubt it would have much of an impact on my credit score. And for the Citi card that would only decrease it by 5K or less (not down to 5K) just to free up some since I'd like to get the new card but don't need to have a large line and know that a major reduction in credit there would have a great impact on credit score since I've had this card since '91 and have been paying the annual fee on this card since inception until just this year when they "generously" waived it (tongue in cheek) since I never got any bonus on this card when I opened it. Haven't churned other cards since November and all have since been closed for a while.
I'll just sit tight until Tuesday and see what they have to say. I've got nothing to lose.

I would be careful about making any changes to an existing card with another bank. First of all, I'm not ever sure that that's what Citi is complaining about. Most likely they mean the credit you have with them.

Second of all, it can take them a month or so (reporting agency lags) before Citi will be able to see the change on your Chase card. By then, it's probably too late for a "reconsider" on the current app, and you'll have to wait 60 days to do a new app, by which time (unless it's extended) the 75k offer will either just be over or be almost over, depending on when Citi thinks you made this app.

Third, a change to your Chase card, even if it's to lower the credit limit, could generate a pull. (Depending on what else you've done, that may or may not be signficant.)

You didn't mention how much credit limit you can spare on your Citi Gold card, but that's likely the only place you can reduce that would help your new app that's already in process.

Open your Citigold interest checking account with a $500 minimum deposit8. There's no monthly service fee for the first two statement cycles. After that, we'll continue to waive the monthly fee if the combined average balance of your eligible linked accounts is:

* $100,000 or more across all your linked Citi accounts
OR
* $250,000 or more if your Citibank first mortgage is included in the total relationship.

Otherwise, a $25 monthly service fee will apply. *
NOTE: The brochure also shows:
*You can also have $50,000+ in deposits including retirement accounts (to have the monthly fee waived)
*The monthly fee (for not meeting set criteria) is raised to $30/month
*Waived annual fees on participating credit cards.#
#Participating credit cards include: Citi Platinum Select/AAdvantage World Matercard, Citi Premier Pass - Elite Level. The Citigold account must be open and in good standing for the fee waiver to remain in effect.
*Waived foreign exchange fee (if you use the debit card)
*Free AAdvantage Debit Card (1 mile/$) - which has a 4k signup bonus

It is your credit line with Citi.

Where did you get this notion?

I lowered Chase credit lines all the time and NEVER see any hard pull resulting from that. Chase has a habit to hand out HUGE credit line on the first application therefore leaves no room for subsequent application for other cards.

The only issue is once you lower it, you cannot get it back until X months have passed - in the old days this is not even the case for Chase would call and literally beg me to take the line back on, even put on a different card.

It is the credit line with Citi being the maximum Citi considers can grant the OP. It depends on if Citi current policy allows it takes credit line from other cards to approve the AA cards. Based on reported data points, this has been allowed with some Citi cards.
