It does not matter because your SSN is on all your Citi accounts. If for anything, using Short Cut is better because you are a "Known" entity to Citi.
OP got his new card despite his existing AA card is because his AA card is opened 4 or 5 years ago.
From data points reported so far, the "look back" period for Citi to disqualify you based on New Customer Only, is anywhere between 9 to 18 months. Whether you fall into 9 or 18 is of course a highly YMMV. Suffice to say, if your AA cards were opened 18 months ago, you are NOT on the screening list for "New Customer Only" eligibility.
