It would probably answer 50%+ of the basic questions that a lot of the newer members seem to be asking! In fact when I see a basic question asked which has already been asked and answered in the past week or is readily found here, I am just going to post a link to this thread for them. ^Everything in your post was spot on IMHO, although regarding the point above, you might also want to add that it's possible to call Reservations and get bonuses officially added before your stay. Normally this is not necessary unless you are completely anal (granted many of us FTers are
). However in other cases it actually is important, such as when you are trying to add DEL5K to an AAA rate. It seems that a lot of promos (G bonuses, DEL5K, etc) don't pull up properly when booking an AAA rate online, but they are definitely useable on the AAA rate and Reservations can add the bonus easily. In fact Reservations can actually add TWO (2) bonuses to each Reservations whereas we can only add one bonus to each reservation when we book online. So sometimes a call in before the stay can be helpful in getting bonuses added (especially DEL5K or DELISH which is supposed to be added before arrival).

I'm not sure where to post this, but I'll put it here for now. Feel free to move it to one of the UA-specific threads.
I'm a newbie to Hyatt and to hotel points in general. The FFN + UA miles promotion caught my attention, and thus, here I am. This means that I am starting from scratch, and have read what seems like 100 threads to figure out what I need to know to get started. Here's what I did to attempt to earn all the UA 1K + Hyatt bonuses:
1. Register with Hyatt
A. Go to hyatt.com and create a GP account
B. Choose to earn Free Nights (not Bonus Points)
C. Receive immediate email confirmation, stating that you are earning FFNs
2. Register for UA 1K offer to earn 5K UA miles for each stay
A. Follow link from UA 1K website.
B. Enter UA FF number
C. Print confirmation page
3. Register for UA 2500 bonus miles
A. Find link here
B. Enter UA FF number
C. Print confirmation page
4. Make reservations with local Hyatt Place
A. Enter GP number
5. Check-in at Hyatt Place
A. Request to earn miles, not points
6. Repeat 4 and 5 next weekend
7. Check mile balances at UA and GP. Expect to wait a couple days for miles to post.
8. When FFNs post (or perhaps before?) call Hyatt to book FFN stays. Personally, I checked availability for the properties I wanted now, before starting.
9. Show up and stay in some of the best hotels!
Expected earnings: 5000 UA miles per stay, 500 UA miles per stay, 2500 UA miles per every second stay, 1 FFN per every second stay
Hence, after the second stay, I should have 13500 UA miles and 1 FFN.
Do I have this right? Anything else I need to be aware of?

A truly fine post. As a newcomer to Hyatt I've been incredibly impressed with how thoughtful and thorough the Platinum customer service line has been especially in comparison with the inevitable run-around received from all other hotel chains. However, I'm still a bit confused about just how much one may "stack" various bonuses, especially in regards to points vs. miles.
I am signed up for both "next big thing" and also the Southwest Airlines promotion (receive 2.5 bonus RR credits every 2nd stay). I realize that these will both work on my upcoming stays. However, the next couple stays also have Gx bonuses. If I take miles - in order to get the Southwest bonus - will I lose the Gx bonus because I didn't take points? A call to Hyatt CS seemed to say yes, but I was left a bit confused. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Choosing miles means you are not eligible for G offer bonus points.
You can not earn both miles and G bonus Gold Passport points.
Here is the link to Hyatt Gold Passport current G bonuses for people who don't know where to find the G bonus offers.
Use the G bonus links to make your reservation in order to earn additional bonus points at a participating Hyatt property.
While we generically use the term "Gx bonus" referring to Gold Passport hotel points, some bonuses are "A" miles bonuses. You can also earn bonus miles at participating properties offering "A" bonuses.

Another tip -
Pay attention to the Colors of the Gold Passport bonuses - even though it's listed at the top of the page, a few of us have been disappointed by not reading carefully - If G-bonus is printed in:
BLUE Offers valid only Sunday - Thursday
RED Offers valid only Friday - Sunday
BLACK Offers valid seven days a week.
The above refer to check-in day.
BLUE Offers valid only Sunday - Thursday
RED Offers valid only Friday - Sunday

I'm currently having a "healthy confrontation" with Diamond customer service. I chose miles for three stays. They will not give me my Diamond Amenity points. Their argument is that, when one chooses miles, you're not eligible for any points-based bonuses. I get that; However, the Diamond Amenity is totally separate. I've now been through three reps and one supervisor who are locked down tight on this issue. I've never chosen miles before. I've always chosen points, so this has never been an issue.
Now it's something that I have a problem with on principle. It's tough enough, especially at HP properties, to get agents to even enter miles information correctly, let alone bonuses. If they are going to refuse a Diamond Amenity because we choose miles, the Diamond amenity is devalued.
I'm on the phone with Consumer Affairs now discussing it. If you've had this issue before, how did you get it resolved?
EDITED: Consumer Affairs tells me that this is a matter of many agents not understanding the Diamond Amenity. The Consumer Affairs rep took care of the posting within a minute. He also advised that, if it happens again, to escalate the call to them at once, and they will straighten out Gold Passport. I appreciated the swift response, even if Gold Passport CS dropped the ball on this one.

I know that my frustration over agents lack of knowledge and unwillingness to post the points is what led to my gratefully accepting an offer of a Private Line Agent. Hopefully, your time spent on this will result in more agents being educated about the benefit.

I would echo this, for simple things like missing G bonuses, I would never bother calling, it takes a minute or so to fill out the missing point form and I've never had a problem getting them posted that way and it takes less time than actually calling.

I did not know that you could get a DEL5K on a AAA rate, I thought it was only applicable to the Hyatt Daily Rate, pre-paid rate, and whatever special packages they were offering.
Are you positive about this and how do I explain it to a recalcitrant agent if I get one?

Called today to follow up on a diamond amenity posting. 20 minutes on hold and the gentleman said they don't do diamond amenities if you choose miles, but they'd make a one time exception.
