Nice air for now thanks to recent rain. Enjoy the fresh air while possible :-)

I just came back from Northern Sonoma County after a couple of nights. After a cloudy Saturday, with a decent late afternoon shpritz, the stars came out, yesterday was a lovely day with the bluest skies I've seen anywhere in months, and the best part (other than the copious consumption of food and vino) was passing several Cal Fire trucks from Santa Clara, today headed on 101 South, as it looks like their services aren't needed right now. (More than a bit unnerving were the howling winds picking up during the night, and the upcoming forecast.)

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to make a list of "things to eat before I die," might I suggest visiting Catelli's in Geyserville ( Catelli's ) and ordering Burrata and Prosciutto: Triple-cream mozzarella, San Daniele Prosciutto, grilled bread, and baby arugula with Dry Creek Olive Oil. So good, it will make vegetarians eat pork, and vegans eat pork and cheese. And for the rest of us, it just makes us cry ... happy tears.

Big yay for your trip. Hope you can find San Daniele nearby; I first had it in Umbria when a Co-op (supermarket) butcher suggested it instead of the branded Parma prosciutto. I feel like I’ve found it in sf easily enough back when I ate prosciutto more often; I love it and am eschewing pork as much as possible.

now this week is sunny and near 81, ugh. May our air stay decent.

Sorry to report but the smoke has returned to the Bay Area this week, complete with orange red skies. AQI is bad (100-200 range) but not as horrible as it was at the worst time last year. AQI is not expected to improve until Friday, when ocean winds should blow the smoke inland. Until then tourists will probably want to avoid outdoor activities, and not sure what that leaves given all the indoor closures etc.

Please note the AQI is equally bad for wine country (Napa, Sonoma) and most of the lake areas in Northern California including Lake Tahoe. Things are currently better along the central coast.

Maybe we should start a new thread for 2021?

Near the Bay hasn't been too bad - some orange tint through a hazy sky, but no ash, and the AQI hasn't been too bad. Inland 30 miles is another story.

I felt it in my chest over the weekend. Oakland, where readings were in the moderate range (and are today, as well).

Will be spending as little time as possible in the bay area next three months.

and the Moon last night looked like an orange sunset - hadn't seen the smoke so affecting the moon before - even though the air quality during the day hasn't been bad near SFO
