where I live, the price of coke and pepsi have both gone up quite a bit since this program started.

when it started, i seldom paid over $2.50 for 12 pack, now I can seldom find it for less than $3.00 per 12 pack and usually its higher than that

Are you suggesting that Coke is some sort of Svengali? :p

I never really drink Pepsi, and I never really have, and since my consumption of Coke hasn't gone up since the program started, I see the points and the resultant "rewards" merely as a bonus.

<zombie voice> "Must get Coke..." :D

I don't buy more Coke than I normally would. Or do I?

When I see an empty bottle now, I immediately register whether it's a Coke bottle, and then whether there's a cap. I never would have done that before. Would you? So MCR has succeeded in some way to create brand awareness. I don't know whether that results in more Coke purchases.

Maybe I can trade my points for a visit with a psychologist.

Wegman's Sweepstakes--Strange Marketing by MCR

After entering the code to get an entry into the sweepstakes, there is an MCR graphic (bunch of colored circles) that contains the phrase "You could win up to 2,500 Pts. Wegman's".

I've been entering, and just took a look at the Rules:

Prizes:
1 GRAND PRIZE: 10,000 My Coke Rewards Points.
1 FIRST PRIZE: 5,000 My Coke Rewards Points.
1 SECOND PRIZE: 2,500 My Coke Rewards Points.
1 THIRD PRIZE: 1,000 My Coke Rewards Points.
So yes, you COULD win 2,500 points...but you can actually win UP TO 10,000 points. Why the heck would Coke not use the Grand Prize in the advertising for this sweepstakes?

The bigger question is, if I win this ticket, can I get miles for flying it?;)

Since the promo began, many things have increased in price.
Gas prices have increased transportation costs. The weaker US dollar has increased other costs.

Well, that's good news. I keep entering codes hoping that Delta awards will come back. I'm not too interested in the contest but I would like more MILES!

Deb

Does anybody get excited about spending points to enter contests? What a snoozer!

Julest Mar 31, 2008 1:15 pm

I didn't post it because I was interested in the contest,*nobody cares about the contests* I posted it for the people who thought coke and delta were done, because the lack of the delta logo on main page.

I only drink diet coke, so I won't give up on it yet, because it only costs me time to enter the codes.

easygoing77 Apr 2, 2008 8:48 am

Using points for contest is waste of points. Better to get free coke coupons instead.

On the contrary, I've never paid under $2.50 for a 12 pack and rarely less than $3.00

Wow - talk about biting the hand that feeds...

If you drink as much diet coke as we do, you are basically getting something for nothing. I have been drinking this stuff my whole life - there were never any "rewards" - coke just took my money and provided a quality product.

Now I find that I have probably accumulated enough points from the past 2 years to get 5000 IC points. Conincidentally we just spent 5000 points for a free night at the CP Queenstown, which probably saved us $150. That's $150 for drinking diet cokes that we would have purchased anyway and then wasting an hour or two entering the codes into the computer.

So what if you can't get a few AA or DL miles. You snooze, you lose.

The whining never ceases to amaze.

I don't really consider it whining. Like the other posts stated, it is a value analysis and I am one of the most value-oriented people around. Example for the IC points...IC is running a promo through the end of April where every second stay earns 4000 PC points. To switch hotels instead of a two night stay at the same property to earn the extra 4000 PC points is far less effort to me than amassing the CR points needed for the same number of IC points. My last 10 stays are all single-nighters, including many nights going back and forth between two IC properties in the same town. So far I've earned 36,000 PC points this promo, which IC hotels has run almost every quarter the past two years. For contest entries, I won a 7.1mp Canon digital camera last month and a HP laptop last year through the contest section of FT. Add to this the United rt tix and W hotel stay and NW rt ticket I won also through FT and you can see how contests don't seem like a total waste of time IMHO.

I also use the points for worthwhile hotel stays. Mrs. Outoftown and I were some of the last FT'rs to take advantage of the MR to Rome for $85+tax and just got back two weeks ago. I burned 280,000 IC points for the IC de la Ville Roma where the upgraded deluxe room we were given goes for about 385 Euros or with VAT/taxes, over $600 per night. $4200 for the week would have been a wee bit over my vacation spend budget of $300/wk :) so I do appreciate any IC points I can get, even via CR, but when Walmart had 12 packs of Pepsi products for $2 last week, the incentive of CR points isn't enough to keep me from stocking up. I'm going to be all jacked up on Diet Mountain Dew for a while.

YMMV
