No referals on my account yet.http://milesbar.com/join.asp/id=MBP900
I am a platinum so either will work for me.
Thanks. The person who used me didn't get activated so that is probably the problem. Maybe they processed it manually and I never got credit. forget this I did it over to get the link right!

uh oh. are all you smart cookies just playing dumb for a change? what the heck! anyone take a good close look at this website before deciding to turn over your personal info and credit card details?
Clue 1: The little truste logo at the bottom of their front page is not a link to an official trust-e privacy statement. It is simply a fake logo that they copied and pasted on their server at http://www.milesbar.com/log_truste_seal.gif.
Displaying that image in this manner is a practice explicitly prohibited by trust-e, because it is essentially lieing to people that trust-e has approved this site's privacy policy.
Clue 2: Any credible site would employ professional proof readers or designers who wouldn't use sentances like:
"How much space does the MilesBar software takes"
"How does the referral program works for MB Elite Gold?"
(look under their FAQ section). heck, even the privacy policy has bad grammar, which you can easily catch. looks pretty amatuer.
Clue 3:
when you sign up and choose the $12 option, you're led to a different website that wants to accept your credit card information. Wouldn't a credible website that wants to accept your credit card information (god forbid) at least have their own payment processing or merchant account?
Clue 4:
The sign up page and all subsequent "member" pages operate in insecure mode, wheras the site's privacy policy LIES that their site uses 128 bit DSS encryption (yeah right..). Judging by the way their payment processing system works, they probably don't even have a SSL certificate...
sorry if this technical jargon is way above your heads but even then the overall unprofessional look and feel of this site should be fair enough warning to stay away!
Here's the website's "business plan":
Make tons of people sign up and click banner ads. Since no one will click banner ads, make up the costs of hosting the website through the $12 membership fees. In 6 months or so when people have earned enough points to redeem a free ticket, shut down the website and claim "insufficient funding". Disappear overnight with a small profit. Oh yeah, don't forget to sell that member list to the spammer who wants to pay the most for profiles that include phone numbers, mailing addresses and email addresses.
Gosh folks! I thought you guys would've learnt some lessons from the dotcoms going bust left and right. Read ****edcompany.com sometime.
and stay away from this milesbar crap.

I wonder how many of us will take a second look at this site now, I now I sure will. Before I signed up, I reviewed the site for at least 30 minutes, I tried to ready everything I could, I checked out all the links. I did notice that it was a preview site, so if stuff was broken, I didn't pay much attention to that. I will say that I do look for the truste logo or the BBB logo when I go to sites, but hardly do I ever check it out.

Many small sites try to fool you into thinking they have a truste or bbb seal. If you're going to turn over your credit card over to them, at least make sure you verify that these seals are valid. here's how:
Visit http://www.nytimes.com/info/help/privacy.html#truste
That will take you to the New York Times' privacy section that deals with trust-e and BBB. Notice how both seals are links. If you click on either link, it will show you a page saying that this site is officially certified.
If you see these seals on websites like milesbar where they cannot be clicked (i.e its just an image) then consider it fraudulant usage.
by the way truste and BBB have consumer watchdog pages where you can report fraudulant usage of their seals. To find out about this, and report milesbar.com, please visit:
http://www.truste.com/users/users_watchdog.html
http://www.bbb.org/about/notice.asp
Even if you don't report milesbar.com, I hope you folks learn a little something from this discussion.

selfdestrc, I hope you don't mind, but I passed your concerns on to MilesBar.com I did receive a response in less than 3 hours. This is what I got in return:
Thank you TravelNick for your email and candid feedback. I appreciate your scrutiny as it helps us improve and address the issues raised in your email.
The MilesBar web site is a work in progress. Once we are out of the Beta of our software BannerViewer, we will release the final version of our web site as well. As an Internet Guru, you know the fast paced Internet environment and how important it is to have the first mover advantage. Just like any new business venture, we had discussed and shared our idea with several people (companies) before launching and we wanted to be the first one to go online to avoid any copy cats getting ahead of us. I am sure you can appreciate and perhaps can even relate to that.
Secondly, we believe this is a tremendous opportunity for Internet entrepreneurs to get started. God willing, when we release the final version of our software along with the final web site, those entrepreneurs who have already joined us will most definitely have an edge.
Thank you again for your feedback. Please don't apply the litmus test yet. Hopefully, you will be pleased with our final version and will give us your candid thoughts then. We sincerely appreciate your support and understanding and look forward to counting you among our valued members.
With Best Wishes,
Sue Chenowyth

Well, maybe this place won't work out.
But if it does, I've gotten in early enough to get lots of secondary referrals!
I was skipped in the conga, would you please pick me?
I'm platinum, so you can be gold or plat.

I can't find it anywhere on their website (which does seem a little shoddy to me, too), but at what rate do they exchange MilesBar miles for Mileage Plus or other major program miles?
I seriously doubt it's 1:1 based on their prices for free travel (50000 miles to buy a ticket through them), becuase no one would use their miles, but buy 2 25000 mile tickets from their own carrier.
Is there a cost for transferring miles to your FF account? Is there a limit?
Sorry, this one sounds a little too good to be true (which I would have believed from a dot-com 6 months ago, but not anymore).
As a side note: I also don't understand why you are disincented from referring people to the paid Platinum option.

Robb....
If you will notice the ticket for 50,000 miles is for no blackout dates and no restrictions which is the same number as listed in my Northwest newsletter under the comparable "rulebuster" award.
As for giving my name, address, and email address for joining, sure... I did to AOL and earthlink as well. Don't we all give out this everyday for more miles here on the web?
Just an opinion from me - a mileage whore!!
Pick Me! Pick ME!!
