Thank you for the maps, Prospero.
We are on the 737 MAX8200. I've booked 1B and 1C on the plane where those are the only seats in the first row. Are these a wise choice or not? We are Ryanair virgins.

All that said, Id normally choose the front row (1A-C) or the emergency exit rows (which have excellent legroom).
Enjoy your trip 👍🏻

in addition to what Tobias said ... you need to be quick to get your bags into the overhead locker - which starts behind your seats [to avoid having to trek down the plane for space]
but the LPL-DUB crowd [both pax and crew] are usually pretty friendly

2DEF are usually charged at standard front of the plane prices - so don't expect extra space.
I think bulkhead seating is generally a personal preference ... I'm not a fan, and I'm only 6ft !
If you're seriously tall, it's probably worth coughing up some extra cash for an emergency exit row seat.

Concerning check-in and being automatically allocated a seat, is the current wisdom here still to check in as late as possible? Two years ago I did this approach on some flights and ended up with very good seats indeed. Not sure if this still works, though. I think you can check in up until 3 hours before departure.

I normally aim to checkin 2.5 hours before departure - just in case I have problems.
Usually results in an ok seat, but not always!

I honestly thought that Ryanair check-in opens weeks in advance, like easyJet. So check-in closes 2 hours before departure?
OT but I have the feeling that there are a lot less Ryanair routes than previously. And given that no-one ever writes a single positive thing about Ryanair (not talking about FT here) I just wonder if the public in general is finally getting a bit fed up with this penny pinching ultra low cost travel concept. I just wonder, because I see that Spirit (NK) in the US is getting into difficulty.

online checkin closes 2 hours before departure.
if you're paying for airport checkin - it closes 40 mins before departure.
Ryanair seems to still be very profitable, and growing!

So, I have a flight from Bergamo to Niederrhein Weeze (BGY-NRN) this afternoon. I will check in around 3 hours before and feed back as to what sort of seat I get

I have always been assigned middle seats on Ryanair whether I check-in at T-24h or T-4h. Hoping for better luck with my upcoming flights this week and next. But they're only 1.25 hour flights so I really don't mind what I get stuck with.
