This information is expert advice on where to look and how to save on Alamo rental rates.
- Some coupon codes are stackable with a Contract ID.
- AutoSlash is one website for getting quotes on rentals and tracking price drops.
- Government Employees can use the code "GOVBIZ" for a discount
- Memberships in certain organizations can receive reduced rates:
- CostCo
- BJ's

Oh -- and you should be able to check-in and everything online before you go -- including paying. If you do it that way, you don't even need to go to the kiosk, if I recall -- it actually prints a thing that tells you to go straight to your car type when you arrive. So you don't have to talk to anyone nor use the kiosk (until you hit the lot attendant). I think this varies a bit based on the location -- so see if your reservation will allow the online check-in and such.

I did check-in already online, but I saw no option to prepay for the rental. Is it possible that this is not offered at all locations or with all promos?

I also just learned that apparently there is no kiosk in YYC. Can anyone confirm if that's true? If so, it appears I'm screwed. I really cannot afford to pay more than $400 tax-in for this rental and absolutely need a full-sizes suv. What to do now... any other options?
What does Alamo generally require in terms of ID?
The corporate rate as mentioned appears to be through a German travel agency. Would a cardboard business card with logo and basic contact information suffice, or would they need a photo ID or IATA card? How strict are they with corporate rate bookings??

I hope I didn't just screw myself over but I called Alamo to inquire about snow tire availability and gave the person over the phone my confirmation number. I used the TINDR1 promo code and was asked where I was flying in from. When I replied San Francisco, he sarcastically responded... "so you're a German travel agent?" to which I replied, "my wife is". He then told me to make sure that we bring ID.
I don't think it's rocket science to suggest that if you're renting a car from a location which is more than likely subject to winter weather that the rental companies will not only have snow tires, but also ice scrapers/brushes and washer fluid which will melt the ice!
I don't want to be a complete prick but its hard to feel sympathy for someone who does something so foolish and dare I say I hope they ask for ID and force you to pay the full rate for said foolishness!!
Let that be a lesson!
