Qatar Airways Stopover Package (STPC)

Note : STPC has not been available since COVID started and won't probably be available before the end of the year 2022 due to the World Cup. But you can book a StopOver hotel for a discounted price with Discover Qatar (starting at $14 for 4* and $20 for 5*) until 24th October 2022 (no later, again due to the Wolrd Cup)

•Passengers with a transit time of between 8 and 24 hours are eligible for a stopover package (STPC) in Doha, offered by Qatar Airways.
•An STPC request can be made as early as 361 days in advance, but no later than 72 hours prior to departure. The STPC is either offered complimentary or bookable at a fee.
•For group bookings, different rules apply.

I. STPC free of charge
•In cases where there are no immediate connections available between 8 and 24 hours.
•No exceptions can be given (7 hrs 59 minutes = not eligible, 24 hrs 1 minute = not eligible).
•N-class and above.
•Directional ticket value above USD 400 (incl. YQ tax).
•Directional ticket value is the sum of the fare paid for the journey and the Fuel surcharge (as shown on your E-ticket) divided by two.

II. STPC against a fee
•When the passenger holds a ticket in booking classes below N.
•When the passenger holds a Privilege Club redemption ticket in Economy or Business Class.
•When the directional ticket value is less than USD 400 (incl. YQ tax).
•USD 125 fee for Economy Class passengers.
•USD 150 fee for Business Class passengers.

III. STPC is not available if the booking includes flights to or from Abu Dhabi (AUH), Bahrain (BAH), Dubai (DWC), Dubai (DXB), Kuwait (KWI), Muscat (MCT), Ras Al Khaimah (RKT) and Sharjah (SHJ). .
•If the passenger holds a temporary passport/travel document.
•If the passenger holds separate tickets.

IV. STPC package includes
•Hotel room for the duration of the passenger’s stay (5-star hotel for Business Class passengers / 3-star hotel for Economy Class passengers). If there is a change in the Flight Schedule and the new connection time in Doha becomes less than 8 hours then the existing hotel confirmation will become invalid.
•Temporary entry visa fee to Doha, Qatar*.
•Transfer HIA - hotel - HIA.
•Meal voucher (depends on duration of the transit).

V. To book STPC
•Update PNR with passport number and nationality (tickets need to be issued).
•Contact Qatar Airways, providing credit card number including expire date and CVC code.

VI. Different scenarios for STPC
•QR is operating an immediate connection with seats available in the desired cabin, but the passenger has booked a connection with transit time of 8-24 hours. STPC is not permitted either complimentary or against a fee.
•QR is operating an immediate connection but no seats are available in the desired cabin. If the passenger has booked a ticket on the next available connection with a transit of between 8-24 hours, STPC against payment is permitted.
•QR is not operating an immediate connection; all the connections have a transit time of between 8-24 hours. Passenger may choose any connection and receive STPC free of charge. There are reports that this may no longer be correct.
*Confirmation of your hotel at Doha does not guarantee entry into the State of Qatar. This is entirely at the discretion of the immigration authorities.

Anecdote: a code-share DOH-CMN within the 8-hour window did not disqualify me from STPC. In other words it is only QR operated flights that are used for connection time calculations.

I have STPC- What do I need to Do?
This is covered in the wiki of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...t-do-i-do.html.

How does the new Free stopover affect STPC?
QR have just launched a new free stopover policy. See http://www.qatarairways.com/english_...ease_plusqatar, http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/plusqatar.page and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...on-2017-1.html for details.
At the moment STPC sappears to be unaffected except for 'multi city' bookings. At this very early stage there is no clear practice as to who qualifies!

I did chose the stopover option, however I don't see how to book anything with it.

I was curious of the same. I have a 10 hour layover after schedule change. I purchased Al Safwa access but with 10 hours I feel like unless I get one of the first come first served rooms, I am going to be very bored. Any tips on time killers there?

I don't have any specific intel, but I suspect it's suspended until at least after the world cup. I can't see them doing it for two months (SEP and OCT) only to drop it again when the special visa stuff starts to kick in for the football.

I recently had a 22 layover and booked a layover at Alwadi Hotel MGallery using https://www.discoverqatar.qa/stopover-booking
It was very cheap and and allowed me to checkin at 6am and check - out at midnight. Very convenient.

I would also agree with your prediction. I suspect Qatar are remaining cautious with COVID and their relatively complex entry requirements (which haven't changed since March 16th 2022 btw) until the World Cup. I would be highly surprised if they didn't relax COVID entry rules as well as local COVID policies in time for the World Cup. I suspect once the World Cup has finished, the hotels situation will ease and hopefully they'll then re-open STPC. Considering they've just hired David Beckham for a new Stopover Discovery Qatar campaign, hopefully this does indeed mean Qatar are getting close to a meaningful reopening and moving forward to living with COVID.

I am looking to book Male to SFO using Avios via Doha in Business, I was hoping for a stopover in Doha, works out to 36 hours therefore not classed a layover, 85k Avios (layover) v 105k Avios (stopover). QR support on phone been pretty poor when enquiring in regards to a free stopover, they have advised that the full Avios will be taken at time of booking and a request will be put in for a free stopover, I should know within 24 hours if approved.

I was told 105k Avios per passenger would be taken at time of booking but received no confirmation of re-crediting extra Avios if approved and nor the ability to change for free to a layover if denied.

Could somebody please share some light if free stopovers work on reduced Avios?

Please do not post the same question twice - it's against the rules of the forum. I have responded to this query in your separate thread Free Stopvoer in Doha on Reward Booking

Hi, I am currently in the process of booking a business class trip between EU and Asia with 10.5 hours layover in DOH. Seems to be the shortest connection being sold on the QR website. Given the RBD and the fact it will be more than 400 USD one way, I should be eligible to STPC. Trip is planned to happen in May this year.
Now that the worldcup is over and that COVID restrictions have been widely relaxed, does any one knows if STPC option is back or will be back soon ?
I looked at the QR website and they say that STPC is suspended because of COVID, but the page was also not updated since the Qatar blockade was lifted by the neighbouring countries so I am not sure the information is the most up to date here. The QR trade support website does not indicate anything at all (which i could find) about STPC suspension either.

Thanks in advance for the feedback !

Seems like you may be in luck if your ticket was issued after 1st Jan 2023. The website does appear to have been updated. Quoted straight from their Trade website (link below):

STPC facilities are now available for selected journeys/itineraries (for tickets issued until 31st March 2023 and travel on/after 15th January 2023) under certain elegibility conditions, please refer to the below mentioned attachements of eligible O&Ds for more information.”

Great ! Thanks very much for this info, I did not see it earlier this week when looking at the QR trade portal !
One thing I am not sure to understand though, they mention that this STPC is limited to selected routes for now, seems like the list is at the end, in the "OND" section (not sure what OND means btw..). https://www.qatarairways.com/content...egion-ONDs.pdf
Am I right thinking that my 10.5 hours connection between BRU and ICN (shortest connection available that day) will be uneligible to STPC due the fact this connection is not on the list ? Or are the "old" rules still apply ?

Edit : Chatting with an agent now who confirms that a 10 hour transfer in DOH between BRU and ICN (shortest connection possible that day) in R class (greater than 400 USD one way) is ineligible for STPC... :-/(OND may mean origin and destination btw...)
