Qatar Airways Stopover Package (STPC)

Note : STPC has not been available since COVID started and won't probably be available before the end of the year 2022 due to the World Cup. But you can book a StopOver hotel for a discounted price with Discover Qatar (starting at $14 for 4* and $20 for 5*) until 24th October 2022 (no later, again due to the Wolrd Cup)

•Passengers with a transit time of between 8 and 24 hours are eligible for a stopover package (STPC) in Doha, offered by Qatar Airways.
•An STPC request can be made as early as 361 days in advance, but no later than 72 hours prior to departure. The STPC is either offered complimentary or bookable at a fee.
•For group bookings, different rules apply.

I. STPC free of charge
•In cases where there are no immediate connections available between 8 and 24 hours.
•No exceptions can be given (7 hrs 59 minutes = not eligible, 24 hrs 1 minute = not eligible).
•N-class and above.
•Directional ticket value above USD 400 (incl. YQ tax).
•Directional ticket value is the sum of the fare paid for the journey and the Fuel surcharge (as shown on your E-ticket) divided by two.

II. STPC against a fee
•When the passenger holds a ticket in booking classes below N.
•When the passenger holds a Privilege Club redemption ticket in Economy or Business Class.
•When the directional ticket value is less than USD 400 (incl. YQ tax).
•USD 125 fee for Economy Class passengers.
•USD 150 fee for Business Class passengers.

III. STPC is not available if the booking includes flights to or from Abu Dhabi (AUH), Bahrain (BAH), Dubai (DWC), Dubai (DXB), Kuwait (KWI), Muscat (MCT), Ras Al Khaimah (RKT) and Sharjah (SHJ). .
•If the passenger holds a temporary passport/travel document.
•If the passenger holds separate tickets.

IV. STPC package includes
•Hotel room for the duration of the passenger’s stay (5-star hotel for Business Class passengers / 3-star hotel for Economy Class passengers). If there is a change in the Flight Schedule and the new connection time in Doha becomes less than 8 hours then the existing hotel confirmation will become invalid.
•Temporary entry visa fee to Doha, Qatar*.
•Transfer HIA - hotel - HIA.
•Meal voucher (depends on duration of the transit).

V. To book STPC
•Update PNR with passport number and nationality (tickets need to be issued).
•Contact Qatar Airways, providing credit card number including expire date and CVC code.

VI. Different scenarios for STPC
•QR is operating an immediate connection with seats available in the desired cabin, but the passenger has booked a connection with transit time of 8-24 hours. STPC is not permitted either complimentary or against a fee.
•QR is operating an immediate connection but no seats are available in the desired cabin. If the passenger has booked a ticket on the next available connection with a transit of between 8-24 hours, STPC against payment is permitted.
•QR is not operating an immediate connection; all the connections have a transit time of between 8-24 hours. Passenger may choose any connection and receive STPC free of charge. There are reports that this may no longer be correct.
*Confirmation of your hotel at Doha does not guarantee entry into the State of Qatar. This is entirely at the discretion of the immigration authorities.

Anecdote: a code-share DOH-CMN within the 8-hour window did not disqualify me from STPC. In other words it is only QR operated flights that are used for connection time calculations.

I have STPC- What do I need to Do?
This is covered in the wiki of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...t-do-i-do.html.

How does the new Free stopover affect STPC?
QR have just launched a new free stopover policy. See http://www.qatarairways.com/english_...ease_plusqatar, http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/plusqatar.page and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...on-2017-1.html for details.
At the moment STPC sappears to be unaffected except for 'multi city' bookings. At this very early stage there is no clear practice as to who qualifies!

OK thanks for that. Will give them a call tomorrow and hopefully I qualify or I've got a slightly expensive layover!

oh_lol your reading of the STPC rules is correct. Be aware that QR833 dep. 21.15 is also under eight hours transit so it is probably impossible to qualify for paid (USD 150) STPC.

Thanks for clarifying.

I'm actually on QR831 connecting to QR739. I believe it's about a 19h stop over.
Bit of a bummer that I don't qualify, but ah well! I'll have fun exploring the city anyway.

At least with the Visa becoming free soon its only the cost of the hotel now.

Hi, for those qualifying for STPC, I've posted this which may be of interest on the process on landing in DOH.

I just called QR and was told that my itinerary is not eligible for the free STPC:-(
I'm going from SIN to DOH on QR943 arriving 13:40 and continuing to OSL next day at 01:10 on QR179. While the stopover is between 8 and 24 hours i was told i'm not eligible since there is a later flight from SIN that day which would give a layover of <8hrs. Is this correct?

a9504477 welcome to the QR forum.

QR947 has a connection time of only 2 hours to the same QR179 flight.
The rules on this Wiki clearly state "In cases where there are no immediate connections available between 8 and 24 hours" Since there is you do not qualify for STPC.

Thanks for the clarification; i wasn't quite sure how to interpret that rule assuming/hoping that only earlier connecting flight would invalidate a STPC but not incoming flights that leave later.

Guess i will try to go for transit tour instead and spend the remainder of the time in the lounge...

a9504477 look at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...l#post26987209 for more details about city tours. Try for the third tour (16.00) rather than the last one (20.00). The last one is very often full whereas the 16.00 one is not quite so popular. you should also look at http://www.qatarairways.com/dk/en/of...city-tour.page.

Hi all,

I'm looking at an itinerary (R promo fare) where I have a choice of a 45 minute layover in DOH, or ~14 hours. Hard to believe 45m meets MCT, but seems that for QR-QR that's not going to US/Canada, and not flight #s 3500-6999 (codeshares?), MCT is actually 45 m.

So I assume that means no free STPC on the connection? But paid should be available?

The connection is roughly from 7am to 8pm. I'm guessing if we want to explore Doha for the day, we probably wouldn't really need a hotel. I assume there's an arrivals lounge to shower (and nap if necessary?). Is there somewhere to leave our carry-on luggage?

Thanks!

ijgordon welcome to the QR forum. You will find the dashboard a useful tool to look at the incredible wealth of information within this forum.
If you look at the Wiki on this thread you will see that you do not qualify for Paid STPC, again because there is a shorter connection.

Since you are in booking class R (Business class) you can forget about the arrivals lounges, for the moment. You can use the Al Mourjan lounge. http://www.qatarairways.com/dk/en/lo...l-mourjan.page.
Here you will have access to two restaurants, showers, luggage boxes etc. You will arrive towards the end of the morning peak time so expect the lounge to be busy for a short while. When ready take the escalator down turn right and take the escalator up to the exit from security.. Walk through Security and follow the Arrivals signs, keeping your eye open for the airside arrivals lounge (Premium class QR passengers only!). Immigration takes place here and after customs there is a Landside Arrivals lounge that you will no longer need. Have a good day in Doha. http://www.qatarairways.com/dk/en/of...city-tour.page may give you some ideas of what to see! On your return go straight to Immigration and security and back to Al Mourjan until your flight is ready. Remember that the evening is the busiest time of day for the lounge.

If you want maps to help you http://dohahamadairport.com/airport-...-airport/maps# has recently been updated.

Can anyone elaborate on the luggage boxes mentioned above? Is this somewhere where you can store hand luggage whilst you go walkabout? Is it secure enough to leave luggage in and go walkabout for a few hours?

plunet the boxes are somewhere to the right of the entrance. Apparently they are similar to most luggage boxes but free of charge. There should be a key that you can take with you. I have neither used nor seen them so this is gathered from various postings on this forum. Finding the postings could be a problem I seem to remember a number on the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...l#post27440458 thread but they are dotted around several other threads. Mostly those that are about long transfers. Hopefully others can relate their experiences. I expect to use them myself in just over a month from now.
